Special Education teachers work with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. They help teach students independent living skills, basic literacy, communication, and math. Special education teachers work regular hours and in public or private schools.

In order to become a Special Ed. teacher you will need a bachelor's degree and will need to be certified. There are big teaching schools like Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, Eastern Illinois University, ect., going to these schools can help you get your bachelor's degree in no problem. These teaching employments are increasing by 17% from 2010 - 2020; they get paid medium annual wage $53,220. The skills you will need in order to become a teacher will be: communication skills, creativity, critical-thinking skills, instructional skills, patience, and people skills. Having these skills can help you get the job and improve more each day.
