Week 18
Week 18 Notes
This week, I spent part of Thursday morning at Hartford Union High School learning more about their course selection process. The transition to high school is an exciting one and we take pride in preparing our students for the jump up to HUHS. Over the next few weeks, you will receive very important information from the high school regarding course registration. While representatives from the high school will not be stopping at RMS this year, there will be several opportunities to make learn more about registering for classes.
Question of the Week
With high school registration quickly approaching, now is the time to talk to your child about their plans for high school. Regardless of your child's current grade, having the conversation now will help you when it comes to registering for classes. This week, you might ask "What classes are you interested in at the high school?" or "What clubs are you interested in joining?" or "Are there any sports that are offered at the high school that you want to try?" Continuing the conversation about high school is a great way to help your child prepare for HUHS. You will all have high-schoolers quicker than you think!
Thank You,
Jeff Carron

HUHS Registration Timeline and Key Points
- In the very near future, parents of future HUHS Freshman will receive an email that includes instructions for registering and selecting courses. HUHS uses the same student information system (Skyward) that we do, so the current email address you use to receive communication from our school is the one to monitor.
- Parents may begin enrolling children to HUHS on January 13th using the Skyward system. Enrollment refers to inputting residency, immunization, family and student information. This date does not include course registration.
- On February 3rd, from 5:30 - 6:00 PM, HUHS will host a registration meeting for all incoming Freshman and their families. This is a very important meeting to attend.
- Following the February 3rd registration meeting, the high school will host its annual Showcase Night. This is a great opportunity to tour the school, check out the courses that are available and get familiar with the clubs and athletics students can join. I highly recommend attending the Showcase Night.
- In past years, HUHS counselors took a separate trip out to RMS to assist with course registration. There will be no registration meetings at RMS this year.
As you prepare and register for classes, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Restivo, Mrs. Kastner or me. While we don't have direct knowledge of all of the inner workings of registration, we've done this before and can certainly help out.

After School Basketball Game Attendance
- If your child would like to stay after, please provide a written note (email is fine). Children without written permission will not be allowed to stay after.
- Students must not leave school grounds if they plan to stay over. In the past, students have attempted to walk to the local gas stations to get snacks. Just as we do during the school day, students must remain on school grounds when under RMS supervision.
- Students are welcome to bring snacks from home, but must eat them in the cafeteria.
- Please make sure to check schedules and remain available to respond to phone calls to pick your child up, if necessary.
Thank you for your cooperation!
