The Hungate Echo

Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Spring Term 2 - Issue 2

A word from Mr Broom.

I'd like to start this week's note by saying a massive thank you to everyone for their understanding when we had to close school on Wednesday and Thursday. As a parent it's always a difficult time to manage family with work commitments and we did our very best to keep you informed as early as possible so that you could forward plan.

I also hope that you managed to take the time and play out with the children. I certainly did! The snow made for great sledging and dog walking.

Many have asked about the cancellation of events from this week and I'm pleased to inform you that we are:

- Having our World Book Day on Wednesday 7 March so the children (and staff) still get the chance to dress up!

- Rescheduling the EYFS Open Classroom's event to Wednesday 7 March.

- Rescheduling the football match with Barkston Ash for a time when the pitch is playable.

- Holding our Bring and Buy Sale on Friday 9 March.

- Rescheduling our NSPCC parent awareness course on E-Safety to 14 March (1400 to 1500).

Finally, let's hope that the snow clears away quickly so normality can return for next week. Enjoy the weekend.

Story Evening - 7th March - 5pm-6pm

We will be holding our first Story Evening on Wednesday 7th March from 5pm until 6pm. The evening will start with a whole school story in the hall, followed by class storytelling. Parents and children are invited to return to school in PJs and bring their teddy bears. The purpose of the event is to foster a love for reading and it will be a great chance to see our teachers read with the children. The event will be supported by our wonderful Friends of Sherburn Hungate Association and will be free of charge too!

Parent/Carer Consultation Evening Dates

It's really important that you take the opportunity to meet with your child's class teacher regarding their progress so far this year. All class teachers will be giving parents a copy of a report card which will provide targets, next steps and an insight into what your child is learning at school.

The following times are available and a letter has been sent home separately to this newsletter confirming the details.

Monday 12th March - 3pm - 6pm

Tuesday 13th March - 3pm - 6pm

Please make every effort to book an appointment.

New World Book Day

As we were closed for World Book Day, we will be holding ours on Wednesday 7 March instead, and we're asking everyone to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. We'll be having some fun book activities and all our children will be given a £1 World Book Day token that can be spent at participating bookstores. The tokens can be exchanged for a £1 World Book Day book or put towards any book or audio book worth £2.99 or more. The tokens are valid until 25 March 2018.

Our Reading Week will take place when the Scholastic Book Fair arrives in school on 7th/8th/9th/12th March.
