No Students on Monday (Teacher Learning Day) and Tuesday (Rock the Vote)
Return to Learn Phase 3
Student drop off is at 8:30 am, in the turnabout that fronts the school off Kapiolani Boulevard. All students will wear a cloth mask at all times at school. Any student who does not have a mask will be supplied one. Bandannas are not allowed as face masks. The scanning station will be at the drop off point and all students will have a wellness check and their IDs scanned indicating they are clear to enter the campus and classrooms.
Lunch will be served through Kiosk Service. Beginning Monday 10/26/20 (11:30 to 12:00) there will be two additional kiosks (lunch distribution) stations on campus. One close to, or in the vicinity of the Pueo sculpture, and one close to our flag pole up front. Locations may need to change according to weather. This is ONLY for students who are on campus, any other rstudents who continue distance learning can use our drive thru grab and go (12:00 to 12:30). There is NO scanning involved, and ALL MEALS are free. The reason for kiosk service is to prevent crowding at any one location and promote safe meal pick up for our students.

COVID impacts school financial plans
Schools will be impacted because of the financial challenges brought on by COVID-19. This may mean possible loss of faculty and staff. The following was quoted from the Office of the Superintendent:
Gov. David Ige is the lead on addressing the state's budget shortfall and is looking at reducing the state budget in various areas, including program reductions and labor savings that could include furloughs for state employees. The latest forecast shows the state’s revenue projection for the current fiscal year is more than 17% below 2018-19 levels.
As part of the state's budget development process, state departments have been asked to identify highest and lowest priority program functions and activities, and propose budget adjustments at the levels of 10%, 15% and 20% for fiscal years 2022 and 2023."

Up to $286 per child--Do you qualify?
You may remember that Pandemic EBT is a benefit for families with children who are getting free or reduced-price lunch at school, and it's one of the few federal benefits during this pandemic that's available to people without documentation.
The USDA recently approved a second round of benefits -- of up to $286 per child -- that is going out already. Families who got P-EBT over the summer should see new benefits loaded on their Kokua EBT or P-EBT cards. New families should get P-EBT cards in the mail soon.
P-EBT! The program does not check immigration status, and It is NOT counted in public charge determinations.

PEP BAND is Virtually Awesome!
This Virtual Band arrangement is made up of more than 20 student audio and video recordings which were then stitched together to make the video you see! The students practiced their individual parts (some of them playing/submitting more than one part!) and then recorded along with a rehearsal track to bring you the distanced musical experience you see. Our talented students are a testament resilience in these challenging times and are an inspiration to us all, showing us how we can reach out and connect even when we cannot be physically present with one another. Please enjoy and look for our future virtual performances on our band website!
1st Verse of Kaimukī High School Alma Mater
Here in fair Hawai'i’s islands
there’s a spot that ever calls
Where in view of Diamond Crater,
stand old Alma Mater’s halls.
to the whispering ocean breeze.
Where the trees lift high their branches
There dear Kaimukī is calling
to our heart’s fond memories.
A special mahalo to all our students and our new Band Director, Nicholas Matherne (pictured in second row, third column below)!
O'ahu public schools transition to distance learning for first four weeks of 2020-21 school year--Where are we now?
WHERE ARE WE NOW?
Third phase, transition to blended learning (Oct. 12): We are planning to implement our soft return the week of October 12, 2020. The learning hub in the cafeteria will be our transition into classrooms to gradually increase the number of students on campus. Our VPs and academies have been informing and calling identified learners to ensure attendance as well as communicate expectations. Please take time to remind our students of safety protocols and emphasize the expectation of masks, social distancing, and hand washing/hiegene at all times without exception. Drop off will begin at 8:30 am where students will be social distancing at the turn-about in front of the school, until they are wellness-screened and scanned in for attendance. Students will then walk directly to the cafeteria to access the learning hub.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost until further notice. Drive-through lunches are available daily from 12:00 am to 12:30 pm at no cost, as well. These lunches will include breakfast for the next day as there will be only on-campus breakfast service to in-person attendees and no drive-through breakfast. We will use the same system as last spring for drive-through-: you must be a student of a public school to receive a meal but you do not have to be a Kaimukī student. On campus breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:45 am, lunch on-campus from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve or as new health guidance becomes available, HIDOE will continue to adjust its Return to Learn: School Reopening Plan to ensure that a safe learning and working environment is provided for students, teachers and staff. Updates about the school year will continue to be posted on the Department’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn).
WHERE HAVE WE BEEN?
Starting on Aug. 17, all O'ahu public schools implemented full distance learning models. Schools used the week of Aug. 10-14 to train and prepare for this transition. HIDOE designed three phases for O'ahu schools:
First phase, in-person training (Aug. 17-20): During the first week of school students physically returned to campus on a coordinated and scheduled basis and received training on the distance learning platforms, addressed issues with connectivity and access to technology. Every student was offered a device to ensure everyone had a computer or an iPad. Hot spots were also distributed as needed.
Second phase, ready to learn (Aug. 24-Oct. 2): For first quarter full distance learning was implemented. Special education services that could not be provided in a distance learning format was made available in person. Learning Hub tutorial sessions were held on campus either in small groups in rooms or large group in the cafeteria while maintaining expectations of masks, social distancing, and hiegene/sanitization.
Third phase, transition to blended learning (Oct. 12-Dec. ): “It is our mission to ensure that all students in Hawai'i have equitable access to a quality education, even amidst this pandemic,” shared Superintendent Dr. Christina Kishimoto. “Learning must take place as we continue to safeguard our island community. Mahalo to our students, teachers, staff and school communities for their continued support and flexibility during these challenging times.” See information above in the first paragraph, this is our ʻnowʻ.
'Ohana Help Desk to provide self-service and chat support for families experiencing issues connecting to HIDOE systems remotely from home. The help desk will be able to assist with connectivity-related issues (e.g., network and WiFi connectivity), access and security issues, device support (e.g., devices, applications, software updates) and general IT support.
