Filter Update
On Monday, August 13th, we will be deploying our student web filter to buildings. The filter will be deployed remotely, meaning that no program will need to be loaded directly on to machines, but instead, it will happen virtually. Initially, all student machines will be filtered the same, regardless of if a student is in elementary, middle, or high school. Information on lessening filter restrictions for students aged 13+ will be forthcoming. For now, when a student tries to go to a page that is blocked, they will be presented with a Securly block page and be given the opportunity to login using their Microsoft login credentials by clicking the "Microsoft Azure AD" button. Teachers will not be filtered through this solution, but through our firewall which allows access to social media, YouTube, etc. If teachers wish to request a site to be blocked or unblocked for student or teacher use, please either complete the "Internet Filter Request" form online or submit a help desk request by emailing helpdeskrequests@ops.org.
Below is a screenshot of what a student login page looks like. Again, they will only see this screen if they reach a site that is currently blocked:
Phishing Isn't Just for Summertime...
Digital Citizenship Corner with Common Sense Education
Updates to the 2018 - 2019 recognition process are forthcoming, but there is no need to shift efforts from what you've done in the past. Forge ahead in teaching digital citizenship lessons using Common Sense Education curriculum and providing outreach and communication to families in your school communities to kick off the school year.
This year, Digital Passport is being updated so that it works properly with Adobe Flash. This will mean a better experience for your students! The refreshed Digital Passport website will be available to use after Labor Day.
Any questions regarding Common Sense Education should be directed to Keegan Korf at keegan.korf@ops.org.
Selecting Digital Resources for Your Classroom
The App Approval Tool (listed within the Office 365 App Launcher as "Approved Technology") is a resource that directs you toward approved technology resources in our district. This tool also allows for you to request resources to be added to this "Approved Technology" list.
The Approved Technology dashboard has gotten a refresh and is now easier than ever to interact with. By clicking on "New Dashboard" within the tool, users can explore what apps are approved for particular subject areas and grade levels.
Would you like an opportunity to learn more about this tool? Contact Keegan Korf at keegan.korf@ops.org or your District Technology Trainers at techtrainers@ops.org.
What does it mean to be Future Ready?
The Future Ready Framework is a robust structure for digital learning visioning, planning, and implementation focused on personalized student learning.
The research-based framework emphasizes collaborative leadership and creating an innovative school culture. All content focuses on seven key areas called "gears." The Future Ready Gears are:
1. Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment
2. Personalized Professional Learning
3. Robust Infrastructure
4. Budget & Resources
5. Community Partnerships
6. Data & Privacy
7. Use of Space & Time
Along with collaborative leadership, each of these gears are addressed during the comprehensive planning process. This framework keeps student learning at the heart of all decision-making.
Watch for more Future Ready information, resources, and other opportunities in upcoming Wavelengths Newsletters!
