Principal's Message
Wildcats and Families,
The Board of Education voted at its meeting on Monday, August 2, to require barrier masks indoors for students and visitors. Masks indoors will be required for all staff when students are present. Board members adopted the mask requirement in response to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 and maintaining in-person learning. Please help us by complying with this requirement when inside DHS and district facilities. Thank you.
We are getting excited about the various projects taking place around DHS. The construction projects do require that we alter the traffic flow around the building during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. A map with Information can be found on our website. Information regarding student parking can also be found on our website. Thanks.
The first day of school for 9th-grade students is a half-day on Thursday, August 12th. We call this day Wildcat Kick-off. A detailed schedule can be found on our website. The building opens for students at 7:30 AM - students will be dismissed at 11:07 AM.
We are also hosting an Open House for 9th-grade students and parents from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 12th. This will provide parents and students an opportunity to walk the building in preparation for the first full day.
Friday, August 13th is a Green Day and the first full day for all students. The building opens for student entry at 7:30 AM, and students will need to report to their first block class by 7:50 AM when the tardy bell rings. Student first block classes will be posted on lists in the commons. Students will be provided with an updated hard copy of their semester schedule during the first block class.
We have been getting some questions from parents concerning a school supplies list. The supplies needed will depend greatly on the courses in which students are enrolled. Teachers will communicate any specific supplies needed for a class during the first few days. There is not a general list of supplies required based on a student’s grade level.
We look forward to hosting all of our families for Parent Information Night on Thursday, August 19th. The details can be found on our website.
Students driving their own vehicle to Cedar Trails Exploration Center must have a “Student Transportation Consent and Release Form” on file before driving to CTEC on the first day of school. The forms can be found on Skyward Family Access in ‘online forms’.
Kind Regards,
Sam Ruff
Principal

Notes from the Nurse
VACCINATIONS
The State of Kansas requires incoming 11th graders to have one Meningococcal vaccine on or after their 16th birthday.
- Your shot record might say MCV, MCV4, MCV40, MCV4P, Menveo or Menactra or just meningococcal. All of these meet the requirement.
If your student has already had these vaccinations, please email Anne Lightcap, BSN, RN the shot record (mfarverlightcap@usd232.org). If you have already submitted a shot record containing this vaccine, you do not need to send it again. How can you check? From your desktop (it will NOT work on your phone), go to Skyward, then choose:
Health Info (tab on the left side) Display Options Show Vaccinations
Medications to be given by the nurse
For students that take a medication to be given by the nurse at lunch or during the school day. Please remember I must have a signed doctor's order. A link to medication form on the USD 232 district Health services website can be found here. Or you can print the form below.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
