On-Line Book Study

The Domains and Demands of School Social Work Practice

Engage in Professional Learning without Leaving Your Building

The Domains & Demands of School Social Work Practice is an engaging survey of the reality of school social work, showing readers where & how they can form an evidenced based practice. Michael S. Kelly's practical advice and commitment to the principles of EBP illustrate how SSW's can provide outcomes that impact the bottom line with issues such as student achievement, attendance and behavior.

This on-line book study is designed for all school social workers who desire fresh ideas and supports to build & maintain an effective practice. Participants will read a chapter, reflect on a study-discussion guide, & attend a 1.25 hour on-line interactive discussion. Before school & late afternoon times are available in either a 6 mo. or 8 mo. format. Books included with registration for Oakland County SSW's.

5 participants (min) needed for each study group to take place. MI SSW-CEH's pending. (All are welcome to come in person to OS for discussion if they are able).

This book study is created for those:

  • Interested in developing their Evidenced Based Practice,
  • wanting a support community to discuss ideas and problem-solve,
  • wanting an appropriate alternative for professional development hours, and/or
  • interested in professional improvement but have difficulty leaving their buildings for professional learning workshops.

Comments from recent pilot group

Conversation with other SSW's with a common goal to learn was refreshing and inspiring...

It was great conferencing from home...

Hearing about the other social workers' experiences and thoughts (worked for me)...

I will be increasingly conscious of how I am relying on EBP and be more willing (to) acknowledge and name it for myself...
