Sodium beonzate can be used in foods. Especially in acidic foods. It is also used to add flavor to food. Sodium bensoate preserves food by" having anti- fungal" properties as stated. Also stated " protecting foods from invasion by fungi tat cause food to spoil and potentially make you sick". Sodium bensozate is used in soda because of the high demand in high fructose corn syrup in drinks.

What makes it useful is that it is used to adds flavor to food. I don't think this is needed.Maybe something else especially that its used in mostly acidic foods. Again if combined with vitamin C it can form benzene which can help contribute to many different types of cancers. Especially for people who consume a lot of soda.
