Boys vs Girls
According to Gustavo en al., female and male youth volleyball players were analyzed by considering game complex, serve type, attack tempo, attack type, and attack effectiveness, but only found the serve type, attack tempo, and the attack type different between the two (1). If you've ever watched a game with just males or just females, you would observe that the two play differently. I mean, the males get a better vertical for hitting, so they can drive it down faster. They also have more muscle capacity to hit the ball with more power than girls. Claimed by Gustavo en al, "there was a predominance of ground serves, placed attacks and slower attack plays in women's volleyball, therefore promoting a higher occurrence of counterattacks" (1).
