Meet your Debate Camp Directors!
Anywin Diakuw
Anwyn is a Professional Communications student at Ryerson University in Toronto and has been involved with SEDA for the last 10 years. After briefly debating in French at Ecole Victoria School, Anwyn went on to compete with Greystone Heights and Walter Murray. Anwyn has been to places all over the world with debate including Croatia, France, Germany, and the USA. Some highlights include: 1st place team and speaker at 2017 and 2018 SEDA provincials, 2016 finalist at Nationals, 1st place team at Harvard World Schools tournament, and competing with team Canada during the 2017-2018 season where they broke at Worlds and Anwyn was 17th speaker. This will be Anwyn’s fifth year coaching at camp and volunteering with SEDA. Anwyn’s favorite lesson she has learned through debate is how to look at an issue from any side. This skill has helped her throughout class presentations and assignments, as well as with her daily life.
Leora Diakuw
Leora is an education and political science student at the University of Saskatchewan and has been involved with SEDA for the last eleven years. Leora started debating in grade 5 with Greystone Heights Debate Club before continuing her debate career at Walter Murray. Throughout her high school debate career, Leora achieved high levels of debate at the Provincial, National, and International level. Some highlights include: 1st place team at 2015 SEDA provincials, 2016 finalist at Nationals, and quarterfinalist and 4th place speaker at the Pan American championships. This year will be Leora’s sixth year coaching at camp and her second year as camp director. One of Leora’s favorite parts of debate is travelling to new places. Debating has taken Leora to every province except PEI. In addition to travel, debate has given Leora many skills and lessons that help her analyze complicated issues and topics which continues to help in her studies today. Her public speaking and analytical skills learned in debate have helped her excel in her university courses—especially with presentations! While coaching debate, Leora also discover her passion for teaching which she is excited to continue pursuing next year.
