April Marauder Moments
2022
Message from Dr. Avery and Miss Chaya
April brings muddy fields for spring sports, the opening of Yia Yias, and the raising of expectations for our students. We want to focus this month on reminders around attendance both daily and in-class. Being here in school and in classes is essential to their academic success.
We want students to be here as much as possible, and not be here when they are sick. When your child is sick and cannot come to school, please email hsattendance@williamsoncentral.org with the specific reason and date so we can list the absence accordingly. On time for school is 7:32 in the homeroom room.
Excused absences/tardies/early dismissals include:
illness, impassable roads, doctor's or legal appointments, college visits, bereavement, quarantine, and field trips.
Unexcused absences/tardies/early dismissals include:
oversleeping, vacations, and wanting a day off.
Students need to have regular attendance in order to attend special events like prom or other school trips.
If a student becomes ill here at school, students should see Mrs. Moore in the health office in order to be assessed and signed out and not just talk to a parent/guardian about going home. Students may not carry medications on them without documentation on file in the health office, but you can bring in unopened tylenol etc. with a note from you and the doctor, so it can be given as needed by our school nurse. This might help your child push through a low-level ailment and avoid you needing to come get them.
Once students are here, part 2 is keeping them in classes. Some students are pushing some boundaries recently by extending the amount of time they are out of the classroom, or making trips to the bathroom to meet a friend/not actually use the bathroom. We also want to make sure they are not signing out to go every period (unless there is an extenuating circumstance). We will have building-level reminders about this.
High school is not all rules and expectations- we have time for fun as well. This week has been a spirit week, with pajamas, anything but a backpack day, and an Egg hunt for our seniors. Break is here, prom is upon us, and our seniors have fewer than 3 months left with us.
Water Bottles
We encourage all students to bring a reusable Water Bottle with them to school. Please help us promote sustainability, and stop the wasteful use of disposable cups.

Summer School
If your child will end up requiring summer school, there are important criteria for students and families to know ahead of June. In order to participate in our regional summer school, students must have an overall grade of 55 or above. They must also have attendance above 80%, and special circumstances will certainly be considered, especially in light of the pandemic. We do not want students coming to school sick. Students also have to be engaged learners, making a good effort to do their best.
In June, teachers and counselors will discuss final grades and notify any students who qualify for summer school. Students who do not meet the criteria for summer school will be re-enrolled in that course next year.
This is a six week program, so attendance is non-negotiable. Summer School will not permit more than three absences before you are dropped from summer school. Please make note of this and plan vacations and trips accordingly if you anticipate summer school as a need. Summer school typically starts promptly after Independence Day and ends by the third week of August. Students will be picked up and dropped off at the middle school for their ride to and from summer school, but will need to find their own transportation to and from the middle school. Dates will be announced.
