Notes from Dr. Irvin

Your WGHS Weekly eNews for November 7

Hello Parents and Guardians,

Thanks to all for a great week, highlighted by our Friendship Dance with almost 1,000 Webster Groves students in attendance, and our Statesmen Showcase on Sunday. The Showcase saw almost 400 faculty and students sharing their experiences and passions. Music was performed and projects were demonstrated through our hallways and classrooms. It was an event that served to put our best work on display and is worthy of continuation.

Progress Reports will be available in the Parent Portal tomorrow. Turkey Day events are fast approaching, and we are excited to continue our shared traditions with parents and the community. Have a great rest of your week.

On Monday’s Late Start, the building opens at 8:00 a.m. Students should enter through the Senior Entrance. Between 8-8:30, students may go to the library or cafeteria. After 8:30, students may enter the building via the Senior, Junior or Roberts entrance and transition to their regular morning routine. Please see the schedule below for a Day 6/7:

Did You Know?

Join us for "Night in the Courtyard," a student-led event located outside PV Commons this Friday. Held from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, the night will feature a performance by Webster’s A Capella group, as well as music from student led bands The Jettisons and Room 182. Food will also be catered to the event, courtesy of local-restaurant Layla. The event is open to all members of the WGHS community, with tickets starting at $5 for students the week of and $7 at-the-door, and $10 tickets for adults. We hope to see you there!

Reminder: Sophomore Parent Night is TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.

On the agenda:

  • Score back session for the practice ACT administered on October 16th—Jonathan Dworak from The Princeton Review will join us to explain the ins and outs of the ACT including content, format, prep, and scoring.
  • Looking ahead to junior year—Believe it or not, students will begin choosing their courses in about 6 weeks. Knowing there are a lot of options including many Advanced Placement and dual credit options, we will spend some time discussing the different offerings and opportunities.
  • A timeline for college planning—While the bulk of college planning for the Class of 2022 will begin next year, we will introduce you to a timeline of all things college admissions related.

Volunteer for the ChiliFest

The ChiliFest team could use your help. We still need volunteers for this year's event. ChiliFest is one of the largest Parents' Club fundraisers of the year. Proceeds go to scholarships, teacher grants and the senior party. You can make a big impact with a minimal time commitment. There are even opportunities for students to volunteer. It's a great way to get community service or Statesmen Service Award hours.

You can sign up using the link below. Please join us in supporting our school and our kids!

Science Fair Night Coming Soon

Come learn about the science fair and how to complete a project on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in the Edgar Road Elementary library at 6:00 pm. If you cannot attend or would like more information, please contact district science fair coordinator, Shayla Pott, at

Students love our Taco/Nacho station at the High School. Students can build a taco or nacho with their choice of chicken, ground beef, beans/rice veggies for their meat. They can also add a variety of cold toppings to their options including lettuce, salsa, cheese, black olives, and jalapenos to name a few!
