The Paiute Tribe

Where the Paiute tribe lived and ate
The Paiute tribe lived in the Great Basin in Utah.
Each one of the tribes occupied a specific territory.
A tribe near a lake or wetland usually ate fish.
A tribe near sandy soil ate rice and they scared
animals out of their hiding spots and hunted
them for food and materials.

What the Paiute lived in were called wickiups.
How Wickiups were made was putting sticks
atop on each other in a teepee fashion.
Then you would put grass on top and small
branches. Lastly you would put mud on
it to hold the branches and the grass.
Materials
The Paiute made pots that could
hold the smallest rice and water!
They used bow and arrows to hunt.
Last they also used Paiute deadfall
traps that were designed to capture
animals up to racoon size.
War weapons
For war they used bow and
arrows for long ranged attacks.
They used battle spears for close
quarters combat. Last they used
buffalo hide shields for protection.
Fun facts about the Paiute tribe
The Paiute indian named Wodziwob
created a dance called the Ghost
Dance. That was believed by the Paiute
that the dance would reunite with the dead.
The Paiute also believed in “Puha”/Power
They believed that everything had a life source.
It was believed that health, wartime victory, and
weather was attainable through power
