CMS Summer Update: August Edition
August 22nd 2023
Welcome Back CMS Students and Families
Dear Coelho Parents and Families:
The Coelho Middle School faculty is excited for the start of another wonderful school year. We have done a lot of work over the past year and this summer to ensure that we provide your child with the most highly engaging education possible.
As I have stated so many times before, I truly believe that we all have a responsibility in establishing a nurturing environment, while providing every student with the very best, well-rounded, and rigorous education possible. This can only be done with the establishment of a wonderful partnership between the school, community, and home. As part of this ongoing communication, I ask that you reference over the next few weeks and throughout the school year the Coelho Website, the Coelho Middle School Facebook page, Aspen, and your emails for any updates on news and events that are going on at the Coelho Middle School. I would also encourage you to become more familiar with the ROOMS App, as this will be another way that teachers will communicate with parents. If you need help and support on ROOMS, please click on this link (ROOMS APP)
Coelho Middle School also recognizes that with the start of the new school year, we know that many students, families, and staff have mixed emotions and feelings as summer comes to a close. Many of us may be filled with excitement and energy to get back in the swing of things. However, this year may be different for many students, families, and staff, as a result of the tragic loss of one of our beloved students, Olivia Knighton. We all might be feeling anxious and uncertain about the year ahead and what to expect. Rest assured, Coelho Middle School is here to support all the students and their families. If you need to reach out and are looking for support, please do not hesitate to do so. We have trained staff that will be able to support and provide resources for you and your child. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Knighton family, especially Olivia's brothers, Owen and Brooks, as they start the school year.
Thank you,
Andrew Boles

1st Day for School: What to know and expect
Listed below are some of the details that you should be aware of before your child enters school on August 29th, 2023.
- Drop off for students that are considered “walkers” @ 7:30 A.M. For students being dropped off, parents/guardians can enter the school at the second entrance, drive around the back of the building and drop the students off near the cafeteria @ Door “I”. Note: If a parent is wishing to come into the school and speak with a faculty member, you must park and enter at Door “A”, which is the main entrance of the building.
- Students eating breakfast may enter the building @ 7:30 A.M.
- Students may enter the building @ 7:40 A.M.
- All students should be seated in their homeroom by 7:50 A.M.
- Any student who is not in homeroom @ 7:50 A.M will be marked tardy. Students that are tardy must enter at door “A”.
- If a student is tardy and arrives after 8:15 A.M., the student must be accompanied by the parent/guardian. If the child is coming from a doctor’s appointment, for the tardy to be excused, a note from the doctor must be presented when the student checks in.
- The school day ends @ 2:20 P.M. Students that are staying after school need to make arrangements with the parent/guardian for pick up.
- Parents/guardians need to call in their child’s absence from school and follow up with a note.
- Students should also bring in their own combination lock and need to give the combination to their homeroom teacher.
- The lunch program will be free again this year, but we are asking all parents still to fill out a free/reduced lunch form, as this helps with federal grant funding.
- All students will receive a packet of forms to be filled out. Please make sure that you take the time to review and complete the necessary paperwork and return these forms to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible.
- On the first day of school, all grade 6th, 7th, and 8th students will report directly to their homerooms, which can be found on ASPEN. All fifth-grade students will report to the auditorium to meet the teachers and the administration.
Forms that need to be completed
Forms that need to be passed back to the homeroom teachers.
- Medical Forms
- Free/Reduced lunch forms: This is important, even though the lunch program is free this year, the amount of accurate applications that we have helps with federal funding that we receive from the government, which helps educate the students. Please make sure you fill this out, even if you think you won't qualify. Here is the link for the application. https://www.attleboroschools.com/page/food-services
- 7th Grade updated immunization records: Brought in or faxed to the school nurse.
These are to be completed on the ASPEN Portal:
