Halloween
Updates and Highlights
In accordance with our district Health and Safety plan, we will not be holding a Halloween parade or party this school year. In addition we ask that students do not wear or bring costumes on Friday, Oct. 30th. This is a district wide decision and impacts all elementary buildings.
On Friday, October 30th we will participate in Halloween themed activities, including school wide Bingo and individual classroom activities. Students are encouraged to show their Halloween spirit by wearing Halloween themed clothing or clothing that is orange, black, green or purple.
Each year we enjoy seeing the creative and incredibly imaginative costumes our students bring to life. We would love for our school community to share in the fun of the holiday. Next week, teachers will share an assignment in Canvas where, with your help, your child will be able to upload a picture of him/her self in their costume and their family jack-o-lantern(s). We will then create a video to share with students, staff, and families. This is an optional activity.
I know our students will have a great day. Our teachers and staff are looking forward to celebrating in new ways. Thank you for your continued support.
Happy Halloween

Social Emotional Learning: Second Step
Social Emotional Learning
We want your child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, handle strong emotions, and get along with others. This school year, we are instructing Second Step, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem solving, and empathy. Second Step skills and concepts are designed to help students both in and out of school. These include:
1. Skills for Learning: Students gain skills to help themselves learn, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task, and be assertive when asking for help with schoolwork.
2. Empathy: Students learn to identify and understand their own and others’ feelings. Students also learn how to take another’s perspective and how to show compassion.
3. Emotion Management: Students learn specific skills for calming down when experiencing strong feelings, such as anxiety or anger.
4. Problem Solving: Students learn a process for solving problems with others in a positive way.
Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community.
Attendance
Online and Hybrid students need to be present and actively participating in their learning. Having the camera on and being visible to the teacher allows the teacher to note their attendance as present. Students who turn off their camera for extended periods of time and are not engaging in the lesson, or leave the class early will be marked absent. Please send in a note If your child has an appointment and needs to miss class.
Tech Tip
Students should charge their laptop or iPad every night. Think of this as "homework".
The laptop and iPad should be ready to use as students enter the classroom. Please bring your device to school, every day.
