Lucy Lopez
A true worker to tell her view of the Lowell Mill
Lucy Lopez
I am here with the main cotton weaver Lucy Lopez at the Lowell Mill for a brief interview.
Me: So Lucy, who or what made you want to work at the Lowell Mill?
Lucy: My mom said it would be good because I could meet some new people.
Me: What year did you start working at the mill?
Lucy: I guess around 1842. I am not sure though.
Me: How do you like working here at the mill?
Lucy: I like it a lot, the people here are very nice and the clubs are fun but, the working conditions are not that good.
Me: Can you please describe the conditions at the mill?
Lucy: We have to keep the windows closed so the cotton won't blow out which means it is always hot and we breathe in cotton particles and dust.
Me: Why else did you come here, I mean, did you even want to?
Lucy: I did want to come and work here. The other reason I wanted to work here is because I wanted to try something new.
Me: Where did you live?
Lucy: Here in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Me: Well that must be nice, living so close.
Me: Well Ms. Lopez, it was nice of you to talk to me today. Thank you.
