VPS Home-School Connection

A Resource for Families

Dear Families,

What a unique time we are in. We recognize how incredibly difficult this situation is for many families. The fabulous team at VPS has been working hard to identify meaningful instructional activities for your child to do while he or she is at home for an extended period of time. Our goal in this work was to provide you with activities that are aligned with what your children typically do during the school day, recognizing it will not be the same as being in the classroom, but everything should be familiar. We worked to provide enough materials for each child to be engaged in academic learning for approximately two hours each day.

This newsletter page will serve as our "Landing Site." This page will be used as a place where you can access all the instructional activities. We will be updating the links in this Landing Site one week at a time as needed. Classroom teachers will be sending out a weekly reminder with the link to the Landing Site.

On the Landing Site, you will find "Buttons" to your child's grade level and then to links with the daily instructional activities for each day. In each daily plan, children can start with the first activity and work their way down through the list. We worked to write the directions in "kid-friendly" language so children can be relatively independent as they work through the activities.

We certainly know there is a lot going on for families right now and recognize you may not be able to complete all of the activities given in a day....that is completely fine! Our intention is just to provide you with resources to keep your children actively learning and prevent regression while they are not coming to school.

If your child experiences any frustration, please feel free to have them discontinue the activity or make adjustments to it. For some of the reading components, links have been given so your child can listen to the text if he or she needs this extra support.

If your child receives additional services, such as ELA AIS, Math AIS, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or counseling, there are links provided on the Landing Page where you can access information about how to keep your child engaged in activities that will support their development in these areas.

To support you in this time, you will also find links with resources to help you talk to your child about COVID-19 and to help ease their fears. You will also find a video tutorial about how to access web-based resources through our district database, Class Link.

We appreciate your partnership as we navigate this unknown territory together. Please feel free to reach out to any of our staff members through e-mail if you have any questions or concerns along the way.

With Great Appreciation,

Class Link

Our district database for internet resources is one your child is familiar with from using at school and provides additional ways for your child to engage in meaningful academic learning and practice. Our school librarian, Mrs. Linse, has created this video to show you how to access Class Link at home. Classroom teachers will be sharing your child's username and password. If you have any questions about Class Link or have difficulty logging on, please e-mail Mrs. Linse at linsem@victorschools.org.
