Mrs. Dawn Parker - Co-President

Throughout her tenure, she effectively served diverse student populations in grades Pre-K through 12th, within rural, suburban, urban, alternative, traditional and private school settings, ranging in size from 150 to over 2000 students. Regardless of the age, grade, location, or population served, result-driven outcomes based on implementing sound systems led to positive student achievements. Accolades achieved include being selected “Principal of the Year” by the Atlanta Families for Excellence in Education (2018); Principal of the Year finalist for Atlanta Public Schools (2018), Spotlight School of the Year by the Georgia Association for Alternative Schools (2018); Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education Fellow and Cohort Leader (2018/2019); Spirit Award for Outstanding Leadership by the Urban League (2016); and the National Blue Ribbon School Award (2012).
As a current room parent and a future Co-president of the MSO, I am truly honored to help support and serve the FSA community. I am looking forward to this journey together.
Mr. Hemang Shah - Co-President
My son enrolled in FSA three years ago in third grade and is now in sixth grade. In that time, I have volunteered as a parent chaperone for multiple trips, coached teams for Science Olympiad, Future City, and helped with International Night and decorating for book fairs. I made quite a few new friends at FSA during this time, and I’m really looking forward to my new role.
I have worked at EY for the last 17 years, starting in IT as a developer, business analyst, project manager, and for the last 4 years as a product owner in Finance.
Outside of work and FSA, I have extensive volunteer experience in the Boys Scouts since we moved to Georgia seven years ago. I have held the position of Den leader, Lion leader, Committee Chair, Cub Camp Director for 3 years, and now I am a Troop leader as well as Unit Commissioner for several Packs.
My hobbies include helping my wife on gardening projects at home and for her budding gardening business, some light woodworking and carpentry, and watching sci-fi, fantasy, and superhero shows and movies with our family.
Mrs. Sheva Kachru - VP of Parent Engagement
My name is Sheva Kachru, and I am excited to take on the role of VP parent engagement at FSA. I am an PMP certified management consultant and run my own consulting company. I lead global teams in information technology, financial services, and management consulting. We are a loving family of three. My daughter Sanvi K is a fourth-grader at FSA and my husband Ritesh Koul is a Technology Executive. I believe family comes first and being a parent is a big responsibility. As a parent of a young child at FSA for the last four years, I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer as a room parent and have organized and supported various MSO events. This year I served on the planning committees for Teacher Appreciation Week.
As a VP of parent engagement, my goal will be to build collaborative and transparent parent engagement models as well as use technology to improve the parent engagement experience. I truly believe that education is a joint venture, hence collaboration between the teachers, school, and parents is needed now more than ever. Looking forward to working with you all to support me in building innovative and flexible engagement models to enhance parent engagement at our school
Mrs.Cyndi Dieker - Treasurer
Cyndi is a mother of two boys in elementary school and an active member of her community. She has a background in Financial Planning and Bookkeeping. Previously she held the treasurer role for her Midtown Neighborhood Association and she is currently a member of her current HOA board in Alpharetta. She enjoys spending time outside hiking, biking, and just relaxing.
Mrs. Amy West - Secretary
I have served as interim secretary for the MSO during the FY20-21 school year. I have two children at FSA, a 2nd grader and 4th grader. Beyond this experience, I have participated as a room parent for the last 5 years, I’ve volunteered at numerous MSO sponsored events and have participated as a coach and judge for Destination Imagination.
Mr. Chris Watson - VP of Technology
I have two boys who have attended FSA for the past six years, Holden and Archer. My father began teaching me programming on our PCjr when I was seven. recieved my undergraduate degree in Computer Science from from Kennesaw State University. I've worked in technology in multiple positioms ranging from engineer to architect to leadership during which time I've authored multiple patents in HIPAA security. I live in Acworth with my wife, two boys, and our two dogs in our 115 year old home. Outside of work, I enjoy working any kind of DIY project (ranging from sewing to electronics to woodworking), photography with antique cameras, and retro gaming. I'm looking forward to giving back to the FSA community as it has given to our family.

University of Rochester offers online courses and live sessions with mentors.
“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
So says Isaac Newton.
In this spirit, University of Rochester has designed three online courses that enable high schoolers to explore their passions before college. All courses offer live, online mentorship to guide students along the way. Mentors are themselves students with experience in the subjects covered by the courses. They enrich the learning process by adding first-hand experience and can answer questions about majors and careers in the field. They also brainstorm with students and assist with assignments.
All of our courses are flexible, featuring dynamic, online videos led by professors and live sessions with mentors, so students can study anytime, anywhere, at their own pace.
Meet some of our University of Rochester mentors:
- Michael Healey, Rochester Graduate class of 2016.
Michael is a mentor for our U.S. Healthcare course. After spending two years as a teaching assistant for courses in American health policy and related topics, he is now an MD/PhD candidate studying the history of medicine.
- Jocelyn Matthew, undergraduate at Rochester
Jocelyn is a mentor for our Personalized Medicine course. She’s studying Genetics and has experience as a Chemistry TA, as well as research experience in personalized cancer vaccine development. She also volunteers for the STEM Initiative, aiming to inspire students in Rochester elementary and middle schools to pursue studies and careers in the STEM fields.
Learn more about Michael, Jocelynn or other mentors for our Program.
Personal mentoring for guidance—flexible learning format
- Mentorship: Students will participate in live, online group sessions with a Rochester mentor who assists with brainstorming on their final project and answering questions about assignments.
- Flexible learning: Course lessons are delivered by renowned professors through dynamic videos allowing them to study anytime that fits their schedule.
- Certificate of Completion from the University of Rochester: Students earn this recognition when they finish the course successfully.
Virtual Opportunity | Summer STEM Institute
The Summer STEM Institute (SSI) is a six-week virtual summer program for high school students. The program was started last summer by educators, students, and graduates from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT to continue educational opportunities during COVID-19. Last year, SSI received over 2,450 applications from students in 78 different countries. We previously received an application from a student at fulton science academy private school, and we thought your students may be interested in applying this year, especially since many extracurricular activities and summer programs are still cancelled due to COVID-19.
SSI consists of three main parts:
- Research and data science bootcamp: Students learn how to design and conduct data science research projects. Students learn about the research process and how to apply statistical and machine learning methods to address scientific questions with real-world impact.
- Masterclass lecture series: Students are connected to accomplished young adults around the world. Students have the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship from Forbes 30 Under 30 recipients, science research from International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) grand prize winners, and other topics from speakers with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Mentored research project: Students complete a research project through a rigorous, hands-on learning experience under the guidance of mentors. Previously, students have worked in a variety of fields, from computational biology to quantum physics. You can view previous research projects students have conducted on the program website.
Many students who attended the program last year said SSI changed their lives and asked for our team to continue running SSI in future years.
Students and families can learn more about SSI and apply on their website here: https://www.summersteminstitute.org/
Explore Barry's biochemistry specialization
Hello,
My name is Andrea Torrecilla. I’m a chemistry major specializing in biochemistry in Barry University’s Department of Physical Sciences.
I’m so excited to invite you to learn more about the program at the upcoming virtual info session, Chemistry/BioChemistry Career Pathways.
Every day, I am captivated by the world of chemistry through our intensive curriculum and hands-on mentorship from esteemed, approachable faculty. We don’t learn in a bubble, we collaboratively apply chemistry and biochemistry concepts to environmental, social, economic, and health issues in local and global communities. We often learn through research, at local and national conferences, and by publishing in science journals, as well. Barry ensures that students have every opportunity to realize their academic and career ambitions -- whatever the field they choose to pursue.
At the session, you’ll meet me, other students, and our professors to learn why this is such an amazing program at Chemistry/BioChemistry Career Pathways on April 21 from 4:00-5:00 pm.
An admissions counselor will also be present to explain financial aid and scholarship opportunities. I personally received financial aid, which has afforded me the opportunity to thrive in the chemistry program. I can focus on my studies instead of worrying about going into debt.
Wednesday, April 21 from 4:00-5:00 pm

Learn journalism from working reporters this summer — without leaving home.
Boston University presents a virtual classroom experience for high school students interested in journalism, writing or photography.
The Boston University Summer Journalism Academy gives students ages 14 to 18 the opportunity to expand their skills and prepare for college during a time of uncertainly and limited travel due to this year’s pandemic.
Each instructor is also a working journalist, so what’s taught is grounded in real-life experience. Each lesson is tied to its practical application, by giving students reporting assignments they can do from home. Each day is a sample of life as a news reporter.
Note: An on-campus, in-person session may be offered as the pandemic recedes. In this event, students enrolling in the online academy may opt to change their registration to the on-campus session.
DATES
- Session 1: June 21 to July 2, 2021;
- Session 2: July 5 to July 16, 2021; and
- Session 3:July 19 to July 30, 2021

Applerouth’s National Practice Test Weekend
Right now is a great time for sophomores and juniors to take a free SAT and/or ACT practice test and make a test prep plan. Students can join Applerouth for our free National Practice Test Weekend on April 24th and 25th.
ACT and SAT Boot Camps with Prepmonsters
The boot camps will be particularly important for Juniors - but Seniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen are also welcome to participate. The sooner your child begins their test prep journey, the higher their test scores will be in the future.
CLICK HERE for a printable flyer
Schedule for the One-Day Virtual Boot Camps:
SAT: Saturday, March 6, May 1, or May 29
9:00 am – 3:00 pm
(Lunch Break from 12:00-12:30 pm)
ACT: Saturday, April 10, June 5, or July 10
9:00 am – 3:00 pm
(Lunch Break from 12:00-12:30 pm)
Boot camps can lead to 4+ point improvements on the ACT and 150+ point improvements on the SAT, which, even in the test-optional landscape, can be a game-changer for your child's college admissions, as well as scholarships (colleges still consider submitted scores, and higher scores help your child stand out compared to students that don't submit). Plus, while the NCAA has waived testing requirements for the class of 2021, their policy for the class of 2022 has yet to be determined.
Cost of Camp: $249
The camps include two full-length practice ACT/SAT exams (actual past ACT and SAT exams that your child can use to practice & gauge their scores before their test).
What parents have to say:
"Ben is a truly gifted educator dedicated to driving exceptional outcomes for each student. The observable improvement realized in such a short period of time has been remarkable. My daughter believes Ben is the best tutor/teacher she’s ever had."
-Scott M.
"While my son had taken a 6-week test prep class at his high school and had a good score of a 30 in English, his goal was to move it higher. With Ben's help understanding how he individually tests and where he struggles, my son was able to raise his score of 3 points to a 33! I don't think my son would have achieved this without Ben's help!"
-Sarah O.

How Does Aftercare Work for High School Students?
High School Families,
We would like to openly tell you that when more students stay for after school care, it will be harder for us to protect the safety of after school care students during the pandemic. Therefore, If your child is not staying for After-School Clubs or Tutoring, we strongly ask you to pick up your child between 3:16 pm and 3:40 pm.
If your child stays for After-School Clubs or Tutoring, please pick-up your child between 4:00 pm - 4:10 pm.
After school care begins at 4:10 pm and continues until 5:30 pm.
For those students who regularly use after school care, we recommend the monthly payment plan to save money. After school care fee is $20 per day for the monthly payment plan. If you are not interested in a monthly registration, you will indicate this on the form sent in your email. You will be charged $30 per day as you use after school care. After 5:30, the fee increases to $40, and $1 is added for each minute after 6:00. If a student is not taken by 7:00 pm, we will inform the local safety authorities for the safety of the student.
If your child will be joining after school care, you will follow the drive to pass the front of the school and park your car at the far end of the building. After parking your car, you will enter through the courtyard entrance. You will not come inside the school building. Please enter the courtyard, and knock on the door "L25" for Middle School and "HS Hangout" for High School students. The images below will help you to see where to park, enter the courtyard, and pick up your child. Please make sure to have your carpool card with you. Please make sure to be wearing a mask, and please maintain social distancing while traveling up the stairs to get your child. Once you have picked up your child, please exit from the same courtyard entrance.
Please note: families are not permitted to gather and remain in the courtyard area after picking up their children.
