Information from Mrs. Grosch
As I sit to compose this message, I hear birds chriping outside and can visibly see the snow melting with the warmer temperatures we've had this week. These are sure signs that spring cannot be too far away. I have a feeling this spring will feel even more welcomed given the continued pandemic, the recent arctic cold temperatures and our desire to get out and do something.
Both our virtual and in person students have been hard at work these past months. You will have access to your student's report card throgh the Infinite Campus portal later today. All children have been learning under unique circumstances and I hope you will take the opportunity to celebrate the successes your child has met with. We are proud of all of our Blue Jays, both for their effort and their accomplishments.
Our committed PTA is hosting a Virtual Talent Show. This presents the perfect opportunity for students to showcase their talents for their schoolmates. This event has been extrememly popular and exceptionally delightful to watch in past years - I cannot wait to see what this year's show brings.
Although it seems difficult to imagine, we are already anticipating and planning for the 21-22 school year. One of the most important components of our planning is the number of students we will welcome each day. If you know someone who will be joining us, please encourage them to complete the registriation process online at www.ccsd15.net at their earliest convenience. On the flipside, if your plans do not have you returning to MJ in August, please call the main office to let us know you will be moving on.

Kindergarten and New Student Registration
Kindergarten and new student online registration for the 2021-22 school year begins on February 15. You may register your new student by visiting the registration page on the District website. Many questions about Kindergarten can be answered by reading our “Welcome to Kindergarten!” guide.
Please be aware that new students must show proof of residency and age to complete the registration process. District 15 is also developing a process for verifying residency for existing students as well. When the process is complete, we will share the revised requirements with all families.
5 Essentials Survey
Each year, staff, students in grades 4 and up, and parents are asked to provide feedback on the systems that support our school. The information we receive from the 5 Essentials Survey provides us an opportunity to celebrate what is working well, as well as address any areas where improvements would be benficial. In order to receive a report from the parent group, we need a minimum of 25% of our parent community to respond. We kindly ask you to consider taking the survey to share your input. Thank you in advance for your participation.
We currently have a parent response rate of 24%! Please take a few minutes to get us over the threshold of 25%.

COLD WEATHER/RECESS GUIDELINES
Please take a moment and review the District 15 Cold Weather Recess Guidelines. This information was taken directly from our District 15 website: https://www.ccsd15.net/Page/67
Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should be dressed appropriately. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide outdoor supervision at all times.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
- Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.
For indoor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.
Please reach out to our front office if your family needs assistance with winter clothing.
