Winter Parent Teacher Conferences 18-19
Schools that are successful in increasing student learning have staff who provide parents and students with frequent and ongoing communication regarding academic and social emotional learning goals. This occurs in a variety of ways including but not limited to: phone calls, emails, newsletters, hand-written notes, spontaneous conversations, curriculum presentations, blogs, open houses, and face to face scheduled conferences. Research and practice show us that a process that engages parents and students in setting, monitoring and updating learning goals increases student achievement. Hopefully, at this point in the year you have had multiple opportunities to connect with your teacher(s) about your child(ren)’s progress.
In the fall, the conference calendar allowed us an opportunity to meet with as many families as possible to build relationships and understanding about the school year as well as share student progress. There are two evenings and one full day for teachers to schedule parent teacher conferences. We are thankful for your support and participation as we met with nearly 100% of ALL Washington families.
For the upcoming winter conferences, there are only two evening dates on the calendar planned for parent teacher conferences. As a result, teachers are limited to how many families they can meet with over the two evenings. As was the case last year, our winter conferences will be scheduled on a teacher or parent request basis as there are only two evenings scheduled for conferences. Parents should not feel as if these conferences are mandatory, especially as teachers will not be able to meet with all families on these two evenings.
Those parents who do not request a face-to-face conference will continue to receive updates about current progress from teachers. Parents who wish to meet face-to-face on the evenings of Thursday, February 14th and Tuesday, February 19th, should be on the lookout for further information from your child’s teacher for directions on how to sign up.
