Your Staff Development Budget (for 1-29 day applications)
One of the new things this year is access to view how much of your Staff Development budget is remaining for the year. With the changes to Directorates and each of them being of vastly varying sizes, we've calculated your allocation for '1-29 day' activities that staff apply for funding for based on the number of staff working within the Directorate. This felt fairer than giving each department the same allocation (as has happened previously). Use this page to help you make judgements about how to support applications that come through.
A reminder-
- 'Essential' should be selected for any development activity that, if the member of staff didn't engage in, they couldn't do their job.
- 'Desirable' should be used for all other activities.
- Equally, there is an option to say no to the member of staff's funding based on budget you have left.
We feel that making your remaining budget more transparent this year will help you to make more informed decisions. In the larger Directorates, there will need to be more discussion between Deputies about more expensive development (especially later on in the year when the budget has almost gone!)

Coaching Teachers: Promoting Changes that Stick - Starts again 2 Oct
This is the course that introduced me to-
- The 4 horses of fixed mindset (I introduced you to these in July)
- Allowing time for teachers to practise approaches before using them in the classroom
- Keeping conversations from meandering and descending into a negative space
- Focusing efforts on 1 skill at a time before moving on
It's early days but all signs are positive thus far!
