It's almost time to close the books on the 2015-2016 school year. It's been a successful school year in so many ways. Thank you for the time and energy that you give day in and day out and for making school such a great place for our students! I have really enjoyed working with so many of you in my new role and look forward to continued growth next year so that I can best support you in your work with kids!

Have a great summer!

Did you know?????

On May 31st, we had a site visit from Michelle Ribant, MDE's Director of the Office of Improvement and Innovation. Michelle was VERY impressed with many of the initiatives occurring in our district. Read a few highlights:

  • RtI/MTSS efforts across the district
  • Coding and Geometry at the High School
  • PBL and iBooks initiatives
  • Single Gender Kindergarten Classes
  • Efforts to support inclusion and least restrictive environment
  • Technology integration and use to support student learning
  • Our approach to ELA instruction and our upcoming plans for enrichment of ELA curriculum

One phrase that I heard Michelle say several times today was that she would like to “box up” what we are doing and take it to other schools. WE ARE DOING GREAT WORK!

I also shared with her some of the concerns we have from a district perspective, she will take the feedback to Brian Whiston, State Superintendent as he works to make Michigan a Top Ten State in Education in the next ten years. We discussed topics like state testing, teacher certification and highly qualified requirements, educator evaluation, use of data to inform instruction, grant opportunities, professional development opportunities, wrap around services, and school funding,

I think the MDE visit was a great learning experience and an affirmation of all of the amazing things that we work on each and every day!

IMPORTANT Flex PD Updates for 2016-2017!

After school one hour FLEX PD sessions will not be offered during the 2016-2017 school year due to low levels of attendance at after schools sessions this year and reductions in the Professional Development budget.

Teachers are still required to acquire six hours of flex pd each year in order to fulfill contractual obligations.

Despite cutting after school PD sessions, there are still a variety of sessions offered by the district that will assist you in earning six hours of Flex PD. Click on this link to learn about opportunities for Flex PD.
