Holiday Season

With many preparing for holidays with family, we are entering a busy few weeks at school and homes. Although special events can bring great excitement, they can also create undue anxiety in children. To help prevent unnecessary stress for our MP Timberwolves, we'll be maintaining regular routines and schedules throughout this semester. Please continue to keep an open line of communication with your child's teacher if concerns arise.

The Zones of Regulation

Has your child mentioned the green zone before? What about the blue zone? Yellow zone? Red zone? These are the colors of the Zones of Regulation. The core focus of Zones is to positively support the acquisition of self-regulation skills. When using the Zones, it is important to keep these four basic principles in mind:

  1. It is natural to experience all of the Zones; there is good or no bad zone (just like there are no good or bad feelings).
  2. Our Zone is defined by the feelings and internal states we experience on the inside.
  3. Our behavior is a byproduct of how we manage our Zone; therefore, consequences should not be tied to a Zone.
  4. The context we are in helps us figure out how to manage our Zone so our behavior meets the demands of the social environment, and in doing so we are able to achieve the tasks we are trying to accomplish and/or the social goals we’ve set for ourselves in that situation.

We will be sharing more about Zones so be sure to keep checking out the newsletters for more information.

A NOTE FROM THE PTO:
We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. All MP Staff received a pie as a token of our appreciation and thankfulness for all they do and we thank you for your help in providing those pies. We would like to thank you in advance for your support of the Red Bag Project. The kids we sponsor would not have gifts to open during their holidays with you. Your support in this project is so important and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. COVID-19 Vaccine for Students – Ages 5-11 (and beyond)

We've had a few questions from parents regarding the availability of COVID vaccinations for students. Below is information from the district if you're interested.

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has received emergency use approval for children ages 5-11. Locally the vaccine will be available through healthcare providers (pediatricians), pharmacies, and the health department. Therefore, we encourage families to seek the vaccination from their HCP or one of the other sources and have no plans, at this time, to provide the vaccine at school or through district-sponsored events. If a family has difficulty accessing the vaccine, e.g., due to lack of transportation, work with the school nurse and Health Services to determine the best way to assist the family. For families who do NOT want the vaccine, no action is required.

Fully vaccinated staff and students do not need to test or quarantine unless symptoms develop.

Looking for substitute teachers

If you meet the qualifications below and are interested in serving an Olathe school as a substitute teacher, please contact Shelly at 913-780-8268. You can determine when and where you would like to be assigned. We would be happy to welcome you as a Timberwolf guest teacher!!
