Between preparing healthy food, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, Lake Country School nutrition professionals have a lot on their plate. To celebrate their hard work and commitment, Lake Country School will celebrate School Lunch Hero Day on May 5. This day, celebrated annually since 2013, was designated by Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series and The School Nutrition Association. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to nearly 30 million of America’s students each school day.
Federal nutrition standards ensure that school cafeterias always offer low-fat or fat-free milk, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. School meals also meet limits on calories, sodium and unhealthy fats. The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day.
Get the details about School Lunch Hero Day at www.schoollunchheroday.com.
7th & 8th GRADE HONORS CELEBRATION
7th and 8th-grade students will assemble in the Lake Country School cafeteria for donuts and juice to celebrate honors achievements on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. Honor students will have their names announced and they will receive a certificate. Students who did not achieve honors are welcome to attend and enjoy donuts and juice. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend. The celebration will conclude at approximately 8:30 a.m. and students will return to class.
Students: When you arrive at school on May 15, you should take your backpack to your homeroom and sign in (attendance/lunch count) before arriving in the cafeteria.
If you want to verify your child has honors, please take a look at their report card on Skyward Family Access. 7th - 8th-grade students who earn the letter grades of A’s or B’s in all of their academic courses for two or more quarters are recognized with honors. Any student receiving an F in any subject, in any quarter, will automatically be disqualified.

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY
Lake Country School’s National History Day is an academic enrichment project that requires students to conduct extensive primary and secondary research via books, online resources, documentaries, and historical archives. After analyzing and interpreting their research and drawing conclusions about the topic’s significance in history, students will be presenting an interdisciplinary project.
Eighth grade students will be presenting their historical research-based projects to parents, Lake Country School students, and community members on Wednesday, May 17th and Thursday, May 18th (dates are subject to change depending on the weather) between 11:45-12:25, and then again from 1:10-2:45. A list of presentation topics can be found below. All presentations will take place outside, on the grounds of the school. Therefore, you do not need to sign-in at the office to attend the outdoor presentations. We look forward to seeing you at our National History Day!
FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR
Attendance Matters!
Research shows that missing school negatively affects a student’s academic performance. Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade. By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school. When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances of graduating.
We ask for your help in increasing student attendance. With less than a month to go in our school year, let's see if we can get all students here every day on time!
