Message From Mrs. Brunet

Dear SPMS Community,

As we look to round out what has been a dynamic and unique school year, we are also busy preparing for state assessments and planning for our upcoming school year. We have everything in line to make 2021-2022 an amazing school year for the students that will be continuing at SPMS. Even in the face of a global pandemic, SPMS has accomplished so much this school year.

  • - We were one of only 39 middle schools in the state of Florida to be recognized as a PBIS Gold school.
  • - Our school remained open for all students who desired face-to-face instruction for the entirety of the school year.
  • - We were able to minimize exposure and risk of Covid-19 because of carefully thought out and implemented safety procedures.
  • - Our staff was trained on high-yield, research-based strategies to provide the highest quality of instruction to students.
  • - Social-Emotional learning lessons were woven into instructional time.
  • - Throughout the 2020-2021 school year students were provided access to a variety of programs to mitigate possible learning loss. These included two EOC boot camps, a Saturday Academy and distance-bridge tutors.
  • - We participated in a pilot program with the ESE office to increase our ability to meet our “striving” students within the general education setting.
  • - We created and implemented a strategic three-year plan to reduce the opportunity gaps which exist for some of our student sub-groups.
  • - This summer SPMS will be offering for the first-time a (free to students) grant funded PBL passion-based and hands-on STEM summer academy dealing with the essential question “How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse.”

I am so excited for all Swiss has accomplished and all that we are on track to continue in service of our students.

As Swiss continues its journey of greatness, I will be taking a step back as school leader. While I have always placed my career at the forefront of so much of what I do, recent changes in my life have necessitated that I place family above all else. I have sat with so many of you, for hours, as you have navigated the challenges and curveballs that life sometimes throws our way, and I appreciate your understanding as I do the same.

With that said, and what I know with certainty Is that the trajectory for Swiss transcends any school leader. This is THE MOST amazing school that I have ever led. The plan which has been laid out for the few weeks following my departure is both smooth and seamless. I have appreciated the opportunity to serve this amazing community and I look forward to our paths crossing again.

With Respect,

Mrs. Brunet

8th Grade Events

We look forward to several upcoming events for our 8th grade students in order to celebrate the 8th grade class.

We will be hosting a parade, a picnic, a sporting event and a field day. While we want to celebrate all students, we also need to know that students involved in these events are able to exhibit the qualities of character that we have come to expect from our 8th graders. For a student to qualify for these activities, they must not have obtained more than 2 demerits in the month of the event, nor received any consequences in the dean's office. Examples of dean's office consequences would include lunch detention, bus suspensions, in school suspension (including single period), or out of school suspensions.

Continue to monitor the Raider Rap for updates on 8th grade events.
