Weekly Updates/Reminders
WPMS Book Fair
Our book fair begins tomorrow! All of our students will be visiting the fair this week during their ELA classes to preview the different books that are available and create wish lists if they would like to do so. Sixth graders will visit on Monday, 7th graders on Tuesday and 8th graders on Wednesday. Students may purchase books on the day their classes visit the fair or at any other time during the week. Families are also welcome to visit the fair.
Thank you to all who have set up student eWallets as well as donated to our teacher eWallets. Students can use eWallets or cash when purchasing items. We would love to ensure that all of our teachers who set up eWallets are able to purchase books for their classroom libraries so please consider giving the gift of reading during this holiday season. If you have questions about how to add funds to eWallets or would prefer to purchase a specific book or gift certificate for a teacher, please contact Mrs. Thomas, our Media Specialist, at mthomas@ncmcs.org or call the school.
Please click here for book fair information as well as links to teacher eWallets.
We still need volunteers to help with the book fair later this week! Please contact Mrs. Thomas if you are able to help.

Transportation Update

Athletics
- Wrestling: Wednesday, December 1st at 4pm vs Northern Moore (at Elise MS)
- Basketball: WPMS hosts two games this week: Monday, November 29th vs O'Neal and Thursday, December 2nd vs SanLee. Games start at 4pm and concessions will be open. Tickets remain $4 for adults and $2 for students. Per MCS policy, masks are required while in the building. Please note: one section of our bleachers is out of service, so there will be extra seating available on the stage.
- Fall Pictures: Pictures for our fall athletic teams are still being processed. We have been in communication with the photographer and will update you once they arrive. Thanks for your patience.
Face coverings
- Students are required to wear a face covering while in the building. This requirement is reviewed each month by the BOE. We understand that sometimes students forget to come to school with one, and the front office will be happy to provide one to them. However, we have seen a rise in the number of students arriving to school without one. Please make sure your child has a face covering each day and possibly a spare one in case something happens during the school day.
Child Nutrition Update
- School meals are provided to all students free of charge this year. However, it is still important that families who qualify for this benefit complete a Free and Reduced Price Meal Application. This application has benefits beyond school meals, such as discounted fees on academic tests and exams, college applications, increased school funding to support all students and more. To have an application mailed to you, call the Child Nutrition Office at (910) 947-2342 or email cndirector@ncmcs.org.

School Information
Not Feeling Well...
- Students who are not feeling well are asked to stay home. Staying home when sick is essential to keeping infections out of school and preventing spread to others.
Cell Phones
- Students are reminded each morning during announcements to turn off their cell phones and place them in their book bags. If there is an emergency and your child needs to contact you, he/she is allowed to come to the office to call. Same goes for you. Please call the office and we will be sure to get the message to your child.
Reminders for afternoon dismissal
- School dismisses at 3pm. 6th graders are picked up at the front of the school. 7th graders are picked up by the baseball field (enter at West Pine Elementary School). 8th graders are picked up in the back parking lot (staff parking area). Please note: once the 8th grade afternoon carline is at capacity, those cars will be asked to remain in the regular line until a staff member directs them to the back of the school.
- 8th grade cars are asked to use their right turn signal to alert the staff member on duty directing traffic that you are turning right.
- 6th/8th carline: All cars are asked to stay close to the curb in the bend near the split in the road so that the 8th grade cars have enough clearance to exit safely.
Late Arrivals
- Students arriving after 8am must sign in at the front office. A parent/guardian must accompany the student to the front door and ring bell for assistance.
Early Dismissals
- We understand that doctor/dental appointments and other appointments cannot be avoided. However, in order to protect the instructional time and limit class disruptions, no early dismissals will be allowed after 2:30pm. Students will not be called out of class early until the parent/guardian arrives to school. Any changes to your child's afternoon ride home must be shared with our office staff prior to 2:30pm.
Instructional Fees
- School fees are $40 (technology and instructional). There may be additional fees for encore classes. Those fees can be paid online, or your child can bring in to school and one of our staff members will receipt. Families may submit a request for waiver or reduction of fees form if they feel they cannot afford to pay these fees. This form is available through our bookkeeper, Ms. Campos.
Student Medication
- All medication, prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs that parents want given at school must have a physician order accompanying the medication to school. The Request for Medication Administration in School Form (Spanish) must be filled out in its entirety, on one sheet of paper with the front page being the physician order, and the back, the parent authorization. Medication of any type must be brought to school by the parent/guardian in the original container with the Request form Medication Administration at School completed by the physician and the parent/guardian.
