Magers Memo
December 1st, 2017
DON'T GIVE UP! YOU CAN IMPACT EVERY STUDENT!
I appreciate you. I appreciate you. I appreciate you!
Congratulations Sheri Wadsworth! Power of 1 Recipient!
Mrs. Wadsworth is more than deserving of the Power of 1 award! She is hard working, supportive, inclusive, and encouraging. With a large class of 29 students, it would be easy to feel discouraged, frustrated, and defeated; however, Sheri always puts her best foot forward and is constantly thinking of how she can make her classroom more inclusive and inviting. Her room is a safe-haven. Her room is a home.
Sheri goes above and beyond for students who require additional assistance and intervention, and never gives up on them. She consistently tries new ways to motivate and encourage her students, as well as, staff. She is dependable and determined to make every second grader's experience at Sequiota a memorable one, and strives for nothing less. Her students respect and adore her, and most certainly, are blessed to have her. She is nurturing and personal, and would give the world for her students. When thrown a challenge - she accepts, perseveres, and accomplishes; regardless of road blocks thrown her way.
She shows her students what it means to take ownership of their work and responsibilities, and is helping mold our future leaders. Sheri - you are a light at Sequiota, and our students are incredibly lucky to have you!
Reminders:
- I had an opportunity to read all of your reflections, wows and wonders from our Learning Walks! I love the positive comments you gave your peers and the wonderful ideas you got from each other! Posting student feedback was a trend...I hope to be sharing some examples in this Memo for you on making feedback visible. I had the opportunity to observe a lesson in the Learning Commons that Lesley did with students in which students read a book, disguised a turkey (like they did in the book) using an online program, posting their turkey on a Canvas discussion page and giving a peer feedback on their disguise! What a great example of peer to peer feedback! Engagement was high and the things the students came up with were awesome!
- Please make sure you are sharing the morning announcements with your class each week. Our New Media Team has been working hard on those each week.
- Wednesday, is our 1/2 day professional learning with Catherine Castillo! Lunch will be donated that day by Pasta Express! We will meet in the library for the training and we will also eat lunch in the library to make it possible for all teachers to attend the training and have a good lunch that day!
- Reminder: Christen will be here next Thursday as well for optional assistance.

From HR: If you plan to retire, please let me know ASAP in order to receive the early incentive below...
To Eligible SPS R-12 Employees,
Springfield Public Schools is dedicated to retaining and recruiting highly qualified teachers and leaders for all positions throughout the district. In support of district efforts to create a culture which empowers employees and provides each student access to a qualified and effective teacher in every classroom, an effective principal in every school and an effective employee in every position, the Board of Education and District leadership want to show our appreciation to those who notify the district as early as possible about their intent to retire or resign. We greatly value all employees and their contributions to students and the district. We do, however, recognize that the resignation or retirement of a teacher has a unique and direct impact on students in the classroom. When a teacher retires or resigns, we would like to find the most highly qualified and best fit for buildings and students as quickly as possible. To assist with this endeavor, the District is once again offering an “Early Notification Incentive” for those employees in school-based positions that require teaching or administrative certification- teachers and principals who submit their separation notice early as listed below. The letter of separation will be active at the end of the 2017-2018 contract term.
Eligible employees will be provided an opportunity to receive the following:
· $1000 Early Notification Incentive if declared in writing to Human Resources by Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
· $750 Early Notification Incentive if declared in writing to Human Resources between Thursday, January 4- February 1, 2018.
· $500 Early Notification Incentive if declared in writing to Human Resources between Friday, February 2 –Monday, March 19, 2018.
All notices must be in writing and must accompany the attached Early Notification Incentive form. The notice must be sent directly to Human Resources at humanresources@spsmail.org or via interoffice mail (blue bag) to: Attention: KAC/HR Services. A copy should also be provided to your principal/supervisor by the stated deadline.
The district’s goal is to increase the likelihood of hiring highly qualified candidates by making hiring decisions at the earliest possible times. The goal is not to increase the number of retirements or resignations, as we remain hopeful that you will continue your career with the district. We strive to continue to have the very best for our school community and appreciate your efforts and support in this endeavor. If you have any specific questions, please contact me at 523-0058 or 33205.
Yours in Service,
