Mrs. McKenzie Cobb - Middle School ELA

Ms. Amanda Guidos - 4th Grade Teacher
Hi! My name is Amanda Guidos and I will be joining the 4th grade teaching team at St. John’s! I graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in Science and Social Studies. I currently live in Monroe, Michigan and belong to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. I attended catholic schools, K-12, at Christ the King in Toledo, OH, St. Mary’s in Collingwood, ON, Canada, and SMCC in Monroe, MI. I am excited to share my love of the Catholic faith with the MCES community.
While teaching and being a student myself, I have been able to discover the joy in connecting life around us through all subjects and look forward to exploring these relationships with the 4th grade. I have a passion for science, learning new ideas, and striving to be our best selves that fosters the idea to: Make. Care. Embrace. Seek. I am thrilled to be apart of the St. John’s and Monroe Catholic Elementary Schools family and cannot wait to see what the 2019-2020 school year brings!
Mr. James Smiegel - Middle School PE
I believe that my age, wisdom and life experiences will help me be an excellent physical educator. I feel that I am fortunate that I had the courage, drive, ambition and commitment to start college later in life. I wanted to find a career that I would be able to excel at, enjoy doing, long with being myself.
In closing, I am an avid runner and have completed three full marathons. I have also be a youth mentor for the Guidance Center and coached middle school co-ed cross country teams. Over the last few years, I have taught at several Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Elementary Schools and am looking forward to this new opportunity at St. Mary Middle School!
Changes in Positions with MCES
Mrs. Karol Applin (currently serving as interventionist) will now be serving as St. John Campus Assistant Principal in addition to Interventionist, supporting Mr. Kubik in day-to-day operations at St. John as needed. She will continue to see her daily caseload of students, supporting them in their learning.
Mrs. Michelle Leicht will, in addition to her role as St. Mary Campus Administrative Assistant, be serving as a Development Specialist, helping plan and implement our fundraising, specifically the fall raffle, the golf outing, the auction, and other fundraising events.
Mrs. Amanda Welton (Director of Early Childhood Education) will now be serving as the St. Michael Campus Assistant Principal, supporting Mr. Kubik in the day-to-day operations of St. Michael. She will continue her responsibilities overseeing the childcare center, preschool, latchkey and summer programs.
Mrs. Julie White will be supporting Mr. Kubik in a more direct way as Administrative Assistant to the Executive Principal. She will still work out of St. Michael Campus and will still be at the St. Michael Campus desk one day each week. To allow for this transition, Mrs. Melissa Maniaci will be working more at the St. Michael Campus School Office as administrative assistant 4 days a week.
