βοΈ Important Info for our Eagle Families
February is a busy time of the year at P.S. 23. We are celebrating Black History Month using this month's book that is titled "I am Martin Luther King Jr." Our goal is to teach and learn from Dr. King that "Whatever struggle you face, no matter how hard it gets, you must move forward. If we stand together and remain united, nothing can stop the dream of peace, justice, and helping others."
We are Learners, We are Leaders, We are the Richmondtown Eagles!
In the coming days, we will send home informational letters to families about their child's attendance. If the NYC DOE has flagged your child's attendance for this school year as being Chronically Absent, Potentially Chronically Absent, or At Risk for being Chronically Absent, you will receive a letter informing you of their absences.
If your child has COVID-19 and completes work during their 5-day quarantine, we can code them in a special way where the absence does not contribute to being "chronically absent". Again, work has to be completed and submitted to their teacher for this to apply. Please message your child's teacher and notify the attendance aide by choosing option 4 when calling the school.
We understand that many illnesses were going around, and many of our students were legitimately ill. However, we want everyone to be aware of your child's attendance record, which can be found by logging into your NYC SCHOOLS ACCOUNT , and ask that you be conscientious when arriving late to school (past 8:15 AM), planning vacations, and keeping your children out for reasons other than illness. Elementary School Attendance can help predict a student's performance in high school and whether they stay in school as they age. We want to maximize your child's school time and minimize missed instructional time. There are many things to learn while in school, including academics, learning with and from peers & teachers, as well as interacting and socializing with other students.

Students and families are encouraged to submit a ticket online before calling the Help Desk.
More time in school means your child will get the social-emotional and academic support they need to thrive, learn, and be happy. Your child may miss school for illness & emergencies, but we want to see every student in school every day.
