DISD Music Students Selected for TMEA All-Region Bands, Choirs, and Orchestras

Throughout the first semester, Denton ISD band, choir, and orchestra students prepare for and participate in the TMEA All-Region Auditions. DISD students compete in TMEA Region 2, which includes Denton, Lake Dallas, Lewisville, and Northwest ISDs. Auditions are judged by a panel and students that place high enough earn positions in the All-Region Bands, Choirs, and Orchestras. All-Region students get to rehearse and perform with the most outstanding musicians from Region 2 in a weekend clinic and concert (listed below). So far, a total of 234 Denton ISD students have been named All-Region in 2018-19. High school band All-Region results will be announced on December 1 after their final round. The highest ranking high school musicians also qualify to audition for All-State. The final round takes place in January. Click on the links below to see the names of our All-Region students. Congratulations to these outstanding student musicians and their teachers and best wishes to our high school band students in their remaining auditions!

Guyer Orchestra Participates in Workshop with Jung-Ho Pak at National Association for Music Education

The National Association for Music Education, or NAfME, held its annual convention in Grapevine this year at the Gaylord Texas Resort and Convention Center. The Guyer HS Rhapsody Orchestra was invited to be the demonstration orchestra to work alongside conductor, Jung-Ho Pak, to present a clinic to conductors of student orchestras on Nov 13. Jung-Ho Pak is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and is well known for his work with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Interlochen Arts Camp. He rehearsed the students and communicated with them and the audience about the conductor's roles education and student music making. The Guyer orchestra students, directors Michelle Brians Hanlon and Jeremy Atkins, and the workshop attendees had a wonderful two hours with Jung-Ho Pak, learning about communication and connection between performers, conductor, and audience.
