Charlton Singleton from the Galliard Center Visits
Charlton Singleton came to speak to Mr. Gunnels' music classics about the roots of jazz and it's connection to the Lowcountry. Students learned about famous jazz musicians, local jazz festivals and events, and improvisation in jazz. Thanks for visiting WA-ASM, Mr. Singleton!
MUSC G.R.O.W.S Program Visit
Ms. Fields' 7th grade science classes had a visit from the MUSC G.R.O.W.S program. The graduate students did a lesson on the circulatory system with a pig and sheep heart to examine.
Students enjoyed the hands-on experience and look forward to another visit later this year.
STEM Night at ASM a Big Success!
Thanks to everyone who came out to our STEM Night Challenge! ASM students set some new records for the paper airplane challenge and we saw some great student-parent teams working on the Marshmallow Challenge and the Newspaper Challenge.
Sportsational Field Trip
Mrs. Fowler, Mrs. Davidson, and Mrs. Hills took their classes to the Sportsational event hosted by the Charleston Rec. Department. Students got to try out a sampling of different activities like gymnastics, tennis, soccer, environmental education, arts & crafts, and dance.
They finished the day with a surprise visit from the fire department.
Congratulations to CJ Macauley, 2018 Westie Winner for Charleston Kix
Read more about Mr. Macauley's accomplishments with his local U-13 soccer team.
"My goal has been to close the financial gap and get more youth playing the game that normally couldn't afford it," says Macauley. "I want soccer in the community to grow and to see young ones I help now, playing in high school and maybe higher."
We're so proud to have Mr. Macauley on our team as WA-ASM!
