Chromebook Training
Learn how to use Chromebooks with your students!
Chromebooks are Here!
We now have 2 Chromebook carts at North Elementary available for teachers to check out and use in their classrooms! We also know that many teachers are unfamiliar with Chromebooks and how they are used.
Come learn about what a Chromebook is and how you can integrate it into your teaching! Choose one of the sessions below or email Andrea if you cannot make one of these work to set up an alternate session. Once you have completed the training, you will be given access to the shared Google Calendar where you can reserve the carts for your use.
What a Chromebook Is:
- Based in the cloud (all applications are web-based)
- Has built-in camera (can chat face to face, take pictures and video)
- Can manage a group of Chromebooks with just a few clicks - via a web-based console. (Also can control which web-apps can be added.)
- Can edit photos and videos (even in HD)
- Can play Flash videos
- Built around the Chrome web browser which support all Google Apps
- Can have personal settings for each user (your settings travel with you)
- There are thousands of web apps available (never have to update them)
What a Chromebook Isn't:
- No touch screen (at least not the models we are currently using)
No programs (like Microsoft Office)
No Java --yet! (some websites may not work properly)
Very similar to the Chrome browser on a PC or Mac
No desktop
Offline use is limited
Doesn’t have much file storage capacity - files must be stored in the cloud (Google Drive, etc.)
