VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: 'BEING COURAGEOUS"
WHAT: To follow our school value of being ‘Courageous’ – by doing it!
WHY: Courage is important because ‘we all have to do things we don't like sometimes’.
Courage is when you are brave about something you fear.
Everyone is afraid of something or someone - lowering your standards to go along with the crowd should never pass for courage.
HOW: Courageous people believe in themselves. They know who they are and what they stand for.
They have strong values, recognize their personal capabilities, and are confident in meeting the challenges that lie before them.
Courageous people are passionate and purposeful.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS: (See profile sheet)
1) Your courage means being afraid and acting anyway
2) Your courage becomes a habit, a muscle you can exercise
3) You notice every time you do something that you’re scared to do—something your body is telling you not to do
4) You learn to attend to positive signals and to ignore negative ones
5) You find role models of quietly courageous people
6) You continue to learn and accept challenges
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been great to back at school with all our family back! This school is not a school without our learners here, and it has been awesome to see the smiling faces of kids back this week.
Well done to our Vogeltown teaching staff as well. Many of our staff have their own families and have had to juggle family, the emotions that lockdown brings, remote learning, helping at school with Level 3 bubbles, and then following the Level 2 protocols we have put in place for the school. Our teaching staff have shown resilience, professionalism and dedication to our school and community.
I also want to pass on our appreciation to the Vogeltown school community. We have asked a lot of you again - to have your child(ren) at home over lockdown, to not leave the house, to wear masks, to check in with your child's teacher, to do remote learning and try and keep everyone in your house calm. We appreciate your dedication to our country, to our community and to our school. Hopefully soon we will back in Level 1 and we will be back to 'normal' and with all the freedoms that Level 1 offers.
A big thanks to our Vogeltown kids! These guys have had to deal with some pretty big issues over the last year. Never before, in the last 100 years, have our kids had to deal with a worldwide pandemic. Our kids have shown amazing resilience and courage over this last year, and they should be commended on the way they have dealt with all the emotions this brings - Tu Meke ako!
There have been some changes to our events and calendar for 2021 as a result of lockdown. These are listed below. We apologise for changing some dates, however a lot of our events cannot go ahead at Level 2. Please have a look below and update your diaries.
Nga mihi nui
