Coding Over Borders: Community Service Project Initiated by Sunshine STEM Academy
With the support of the Technology department and students of Sunshine STEM Academy, we plan to build a Computer Lab for the schools of underprivileged areas in the state of Georgia, United States as well as other states/countries that are lesser privileged.
Sunshine STEM Academy students will build computers and deliver computers to the underprivileged schools during Spring Break. The Computer Lab will consist of 18 portable and low-cost computers.

Sunshine STEM Academy Hosts Math League Contest on March 27
mathleague.org is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a math contest on Sunday Mar 27, 2016 for students in grades 3 through 6. Testing will consist of Sprint, Target, Number Sense, and Team rounds.
The contest will be held at Sunshine STEM Academy in Alpharetta, and the cost will be $15 per student. However, a discounted rate of $12 will apply to participants who prepay their registration fees online. The approximate schedule will be as follows:
- 01:30 PM Check in
- 02:00 PM Testing begins
- 04:30 PM Break
- 05:00 PM Tiebreakers and awards
Please note that at some of our larger contests (particularly in the Bay Area), the awards ceremony typically starts as much as half an hour later than listed. This is largely a function of how many students neglect to prepay their entry fees and must check in manually on site. By prepaying your entry fees you help us start earlier AND you don't run a risk of your registration being canceled if the contest reaches capacity. In situations where a contest sells out, some students who have not prepaid may be notified before the registration deadline that their registration has been canceled in order to make room for students who are prepared to prepay their registrations.
The contest is located at 1675 Hembree Rd. (Sunshine STEM Academy) in Alpharetta; a map and directions are available here.
Prizes will be given to the top students in each grade level, as well as to the top teams. Students are expected to bring their own pencils and calculators.
Every group of up to 12 students that registers for the contest must be accompanied by an adult sponsor who is willing to help proctor or grade tests (this sponsor should be designated on the registration form). Parents can register individual students and serve as sponsors if necessary, but we recommend that parents check to see if there is anyone else at the school who is planning to attend before registering an individual student.
Sunshine Math Challenge Question 1 will be released on Monday, Feb 1st at 7:00 PM
Sunshine STEM Academy is proud to sponsor an online Math Competition. All students in grades 1-5 are welcome to join this Math competition! Registration is FREE!
The first question will be released today (February 1st) at 7:00 PM. Register Now!
Each week on Monday at 7:00 PM, a new question will be released. Students must solve each problem every week when it’s released, and then enter the solution to the competition web site (http://mathchallenge.sunshinestem.org). The speed and accuracy is very important! Please check rules at http://mathchallenge.sunshinestem.org.
Students who are placed in top 10 (Hall of Fame) at the end of 7 weeks will be awarded with prizes.
Accept the challenge!

International Night - February 11th @ 6 PM
Sunshine STEM Academy is proud to host our annual International Night, February 11th from 6-8 PM. International Night is a celebration of the diversity in our students and staff. “Diversity” is defined as “variety”; from the United States to China, Sunshine embraces students of all different cultures into a welcoming academic and social environment.
During International Night, students will take a tour through the continents, stamping their passports along the way. Each continent will be represented by a different grade level. Our students and teachers have worked hard creating imaginative, dazzling displays with information and pictures on countries within their continents. At each station, authentic regional games will also be available with fun prizes provided by PVO.
To complement the displays, ethnic cuisine will also be served. Interested students can also participate in the Cultural Fashion Show and Dance Show. If you and your student are interested, please contact PVO.
We hope you will be able to join us in celebrating cultures from around the world. If you have any questions or suggestions for International Night, please contact Ms. Hewett at ahewett@sunshinestemacademy.org.
