RED RIBBON WEEK
During the week of October 26th - 30th, we will join with schools across the nation to celebrate “Red Ribbon Week”. There will be a theme each day and we encourage students and staff to dress for the theme to help teach the message of making good choices to be drug free. Please see the flyer below for more information.
Please note that on Friday, October 25th, students will dress as a character that they admire from a children’s book. Start now by encouraging your child to choose a book, read it, and start working on an appropriate costume. Students will wear their costume to school (or at home) and bring the book to share in class. Please remember no scary costumes, play weapons, or scary masks.
**PARENTS AT HOME: Please remember to take pictures! We will take pictures here at school and Mrs. Brown will be creating a fun video for the week.

Keeping Sick Students Home
To help our schools remain open and continue to be safe and healthy learning environments, children should not be sent to school if they have received a positive COVID-19 test result in the last 10 days or are awaiting COVID-19 test results, if you respond “yes” to the questions on the COVID-19 student screener, or if the “Return-to-School Criteria” cannot be met. We encourage families to review the resources on the Roadmap to Reopening In-person Instruction webpage. The resources include a flow chart about what to do if your child is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or has been in close-contact at home or in the community with someone who has COVID-19.

CLINIC NEWS
Although reopening strategies certainly have taken center stage this year, returning to some of our familiar clinic activities has been reassuring! Although we’ve changed our methods a bit, this month, Mrs. Hunt and I are working on vision and hearing screening for our new students, and those in Kindergarten, and First and Third Grades, as required by state law. If needed, screening can be done for students in other grades as well—if you or your child’s teacher feel this is necessary, please contact the clinic.
Many thanks to our staff, students and families for the many efforts to prevent the spread of illness. As a new season begins, continuing to thoughtfully manage community contacts, wear a mask and maintain physical distance, and prioritize keeping hands clean and away from the face can help keep our school year on track.
I encourage you to continue to monitor for symptoms of illness and keep your child at home if these occur. This tool may help: https://www.conroeisd.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Can-My-Child-Go-To-School-Chart-8.31.2020.pdf Please contact the teacher, or the front office, if your student will be absent.
Wishing you all some outdoor fall fun as our days finally get cooler!

SAFETY DRILLS
The safety of our students and staff here at David Elementary is of the utmost importance. We periodically conduct safety drills here at school to prepare our staff and children in the event of an emergency situation. Throughout the year, we conduct lockdown, fire, evacuation and severe weather drills. At the beginning of the year, we announce these drills so that staff and students can discuss the procedures and then we move to unannounced drills. By doing these drills on a regular basis, it gets students and staff very familiar with the process.
Our teachers have an Emergency Operations Procedures binder in their classroom, which is easily accessible and reviewed at the beginning of each year and periodically throughout the year. Safety drill procedures are also discussed and reviewed with all students each year.
We appreciate your continued support and please know that safety is our highest priority. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 281-298-4700.
