Are you having attendance or tardiness issues?
Chronically tardy students are more likely to accept that absence altogether is tolerated, often leading to chronic absenteeism. This not only reflects poorly on the students and the school, but can affect their peers as well. Research has found that not only do students who are chronically tardy perform worse on their test scores, but so do their more prompt peers. The less time students spend in the classroom means the less they can contribute; often leading to class being disrupted, placing group and class projects on hold, and making less significant peer connections.
If you are having a hard time getting your student to school on time, you are NOT alone! See below for some helpful hints:
Submit absences on the Longview Schools App!
Of course, you are always welcomed to call the school directly, as well, at (360) 575-7581.

FOR VACATION ABSENCES: The Mint Valley Elementary secretaries have a special form for families to use when they take their children out of school for vacation. It must be pre-approved (and with sufficient notice), by the principal and teacher so that homework is available and the absence has the least impact on the student's learning.
Monthly Trait of the Month!
teacher of the month
Our very own 5th grade teacher, Jesse Huff, was recognized as the Teacher of the Month by local radio station KUKN! He won $100 for his class, plus free teeth whitening from Dream Dentistry, a 60-minute massage from Elle’s Essential Massage, a $100 gift card from Grocery Outlet, flowers from The Flower Pot and a $25.00 gift card from The Backstage Café.
Congratulations, Mr. Huff! WELL DESERVED!
(Here he is surrounded by the other 5th grade teachers, Mrs. Kessler and Mrs. Hutton--what a team!)
Join us in celebrating the latest Mustangs of the Week!
KINDERS COLOR OF THE WEEK
Will you help our new kindergarteners learn their colors??
Each Thursday, the entire school (including bus drivers and staff!) are encouraged to wear ONE COLOR to help the kinders see the color of the week. Please join us by wearing a new color each Thursday!

UPDATE ON VOLUNTEER INFO!
CH-CH-CH-CH-CH-CHANGES!
As of today, November 1, 2022, we do not need to collect COVID cards or exemptions forms for volunteers!! Wahooooooo!
If you have been wanting to volunteer, but the COVID vaccination requirement was preventing you from doing so, NOW IS THE TIME!
You can pick up a CHAMPS volunteer packet at the school or the district office and return it to the school secretaries. Usual turnaround time to approval is a few weeks. Remember, parents, guardians, grandparents and other adults are eligible to volunteer. Even older siblings can volunteer and their time goes to graduation volunteer hours.
Don't wait if you'd like to be on campus for those fun holiday crafts and parties!
Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Terri Troy, at (360) 575-7599 or ttroy@longview.k12.wa.us if you have any questions about the application or volunteer opportunities.
NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT?!
BIG NEWS, Y'ALL....
We are getting new playground equipment!!!!
Installation of these snazzy new structures will be in the later part of November into the early weeks of December. During this time, the bark chips section of the playground will be CLOSED for use so alternate areas of the school will be used for recesses.
