Upcoming Conferences and Professional Learning

Mathematics Leadership Team

Our first Mathematics Leadership Team meeting of the 2015-16 school year will be September 16th, 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Each district's Teaching and Learning Council (TLC) member will be asked to designate up to two representatives to participate in quarterly meetings. If you are interested in representing your district, please notify the central office administrator who participates in TLC.

New Format for meetings
  • A.M. - updates and work related to LAC-O goals
  • P.M. - collaborative learning and networking

Advanced Placement Summer Institute

Are you or any of your colleagues looking for training with an endorsed AP Consultant this summer?

We are excited to introduce the new AP Summer Institute at Novi HS. Endorsed by the College Board, the Novi AP Summer Institute offers seven courses from Aug 3rd to the 6th:

Elements of Success: Implementing CMP3 with Yvonne Grant

Yvonne Grant is an experienced middle school teacher and professional development coordinator. She has assisted school districts around the country with systemic initiatives implementing Standards-based instructional materials. On June 30th, 2015, she will join teachers and leaders in exploring ways to establish a productive learning environment and motivate rich mathematical discussions that promote learning for all students.

Statistics Content Institute

August 18th, 19th, 20th

8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

$70 in county

Out of county fee: $90

This series, intended for middle school general education and special education teachers, is designed to deepen teachers’ understanding of the development of statistics across grades 6-8. Teachers will actively engage in mathematical tasks that highlight shifts in understanding as represented in the CCSS, including the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Attention will be given to formative assessment strategies that teachers can use as they incorporate tasks similar to these in their classrooms.

TenMarks, an Amazon company, is on a mission to reverse summer learning loss in math for students finishing grades 1 - Algebra 2. For summer 2015, TenMarks is offering its summer program for free. For more information

Bedtime Math

"The mission of Bedtime Math is to help kids love numbers, so they can handle the math in real life." Students and families can visit the site for daily activities geared towards multiple ages.

Michigan Department of Eduction Update: Focus on Assessment

Last week, MDE announced their intent to provide Spring PSAT testing for ninth and tenth grade students beginning in 2015-16. The Oakland Schools Assessment team has been working with OCREAC and the Teaching and Learning Council to help facilitate a smooth transition to PSAT and SAT.
