Awe-inspiring Tech Ed Projects
"My goal is to teach all the students to safely and correctly use all of the machines in the shop. I'd like them to be able to call themselves artisans", states Wilson. "In Projects Unlimited students can work on anything they want - something for home, something that's decorative - snowboard pipes, an Adirondack chair, cabinets, chessboards, bookshelves", and more. In his pre-requisite Intro & General Woodworking courses he teaches students skills to last a lifetime - how to plane a rough board, how to use a jointer for straight edges, how to adjust a table saw, use a router, how to cut, glue, sand, and finish. Wilson explains, "If you have this skill, you could build almost anything you want". In fact, senior Eric Pacific is doing just that - building a desk. Wilson, who also advises the officially sanctioned Robotics and Drone Tech Club after school, eventually hopes to add Robotics as a course at NMHS.
See your NMHS Program of Studies or Guidance Counselor to learn more about these course offerings, and other Practical Arts courses such as Basic and Advanced AutoCAD, Architectural Drafting I and II, and Machine Drafting.
