SJCS Family Newsletter

October 2021

As I learn more and more about the wonderful things at our school, I continue to be amazed at the spirit of our St. Joseph's families and community. In all my years in education, I have never seen such deep roots and commitment to faith and education.

In the world of private education, we know we must tap into our 'creative courage' to continue to provide exceptional opportunities for our students. That being said, many of you may know that we are in need of a new set of wheels to get our students to and from various sporting events, field trips, and to Santa Teresa in the afternoons.

We will begin a campaign this week in partnership with Brazos Valley Gives to help us raise funds for a new Eagle Express van. Our goal is to raise $40,000 leading up to the big Day of Giving on October 19th. I don't know about you, but my eyes just got really big reading that!

Y'all. FORTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS! That's A LOT of money! {insert big-eyed emoji here} However, I know that we have the capacity to make this happen for our students!

Here's how our families can help us accomplish this goal:

  • Will you help us share our campaign on Facebook and word-of-mouth?
  • Will you consider texting the donation link to five people outside our school community?
  • Will you tell others about the wonderful things going on at our school?
  • Will you pray for our school - the students, the staff, the families - to continue growing, learning, and leading in excellence?

The link to give to our Eagle Express is active now and can be accessed HERE. If you are able, we'd love to get some early giving donations and stay tuned for some fun videos and hype leading up to October 19th!

Go Eagles & God bless!

COVID Mask Requirement Feedback Survey

As promised, we have created a short survey to solicit feedback from our stakeholders (students, parents, and teachers) regarding the mask requirement put in place back in September. Please know that this feedback is helpful input and provides a portion of information for school administration to make an informed decision.

Click HERE to take the survey. The link will close on Wednesday at 4 PM so we can disaggregate the data by the end of the week.

First Quarter Ends on October 8th

The end of the first quarter is this Friday, October 8th. Report cards for grades 2-12 will be emailed via the assistant principals next Monday, October 11th. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Congratulations to Robyn Schoenemann & Reid Millhollon, our 2021 Homecoming Queen & King!

Optional Mass Resource

Even as an adult, staying connected through the duration of mass can require a lot of concentration and effort. We would like to share THIS RESOURCE recommended by the Diocese of Austin to encourage families with elementary-age children to attend and more fully participate at Sunday Mass. This resource provides parents with a guide for reflecting on the Sunday Gospel as a family. This is a great tool for any parent's toolbox - and even to use to build and reinforce the faith with ourselves!

Feeling sick? Please stay home!

With the nature of COVID and the precautions we take at school with illness, we ask that you please DO NOT send your student to school if they do not feel well before they leave the house in the morning. We understand the desire to not miss instruction, however, we want to err on the side of caution because the health and safety of our students, staff, and families is more important!

When a student gets to school and is then sent home with COVID-like symptoms, we have to displace each class to a new location so we can disinfect each room they previously visited that day. This creates quite a distraction to the learning environment and causes learning to not take place.

If your student is feeling ill with COVID-like symptoms and does not come to school, please email your campus Administrative Assistant (Elementary - Mrs. Svatek, Secondary - Mrs. Tietjen) as soon as possible so we can work through the safety protocols.

Thank a Community Hero!

From 7:30-8:30 AM on Thursday, October 14th all fire fighters, police & medical individuals are encouraged to come for donuts and coffee as a THANK YOU for being heroes in our community. Our thank you station will be set up on Travis St along the sidewalk past the circle drive.

Fall Reconciliation Schedule

Please pray for our students as they receive the sacrament of Reconciliation throughout the fall semester. We are grateful to our Lord for His unending forgiveness and the grace to avoid sin moving forward.
