Choice Plus Academy for Middle School
Exciting news for middle schoolers!
ChoicePlus Academy offers uniquely designed courses and teachers whom are actively involved in motivating students toward course completion and success. CPA is a supportive and engaging environment that brings the learning center to the home.Teachers and students interact together, and we believe that learning is a social construct and should be filled with collaboration and joy!
CPA courses are taught live by highly qualified teachers (HQTs), and are comprehensive and meet state and Common Core standards.
What these courses include:
1. A live online teacher 1-2 times per week at a scheduled time teaching live online lessons.
2. That live teacher oversees your student’s progress and provides office hours if they have questions about their lessons.
3. That live teacher will help grade your student.
This is a great new option for our families with middle schoolers!

As a school, we would really like to provide options for families that are struggling in this area. Please let us know if you are in need of more assistance. We are here for you all during these times, and will get through this together.
You may find the list of resources here.

High School Counselor Support
Career Technical Education (CTE) Spotlight Information #6:
Brighton College is one of the CTE Providers we partner with. Among many others, our students can take courses through their Brighton Cyber Security Institute. With over a million jobs opportunities waiting for someone to apply, with a starting salary of about $70,000. If your student is interested in taking courses with Brighton College, your first step is to talk about it with your HST.
Concurrent Enrollment
Submit forms before June 30th: Please have your student’s form submitted to the High School Counselor today. There will not be anyone available to sign the forms in the month of July.
- Official Transcripts: If your student is taking courses in spring 2020, please remember that official transcripts need to be requested from the college to be sent, directly to Cabrillo Point Academy, as soon as final grades are entered for the term.
Important Information for Student Athletes
Is your student an athlete? You will want to ask them if they want to play a college sport? If so, that’s great! There are a few things we need to do.
Students seeking to be eligible as collegiate student-athletes must complete NCAA approved coursework while in high school through only HQT-led Edgenuity or ChoicePlus Academy (McGraw Hill). There are a few other curriculum providers that have NCAA approved courses, like Williamsburg Academy or UC Scout or they can be taken at the community college with prior approval from your school counselor.
Students will need to complete Sixteen (16) NCAA approved courses in the areas of history, English, math and science and world language. This is congruent with AG requirements as well.
Ten (10) core courses need to be completed before the beginning of their 7th semester and seven (7) of those courses need to be in the areas of English, math and science.
Students should also register on the NCAA Eligibility Center website while in 10th grade. This Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete has a lot of helpful information for families as well.
Wellness Resources
Did you know you can get immediate assistance and resources just by dialing 2-1-1 on your phone? 2-1-1 is a central point for public information, including times of disaster to help those affected find recovery assistance. 211.org
Student Support
As the 2019-2020 school year has ended, the Intervention team wants to thank you for all of your support!
Many of you are wondering what online opportunities we will have during the summer.
Reading Horizons Discovery and Elevate will continue without interruption throughout the summer.
On August 1-3, the students will roll over for the 2020-2021 school year.
In an effort to provide the best, most cost-effective intervention, we will not be using Pathblazer next year.
Pathblazers for reading and math ended on June 22 for all students.
In August, we will provide the HSTs a survey to fill out, to place students in one of our new intervention options.
For students that qualify, we are excited to let you know that for the 2020-2021 school year we are offering for free:
Mathseeds TK-3rd grades
Mathletics K-10th grade
Reading Eggs TK-4th grade
EggsPress 2nd – 8th grade
Renaissance Learning is no longer offering English in a Flash for our Multilingual Learners. We are delighted to let you know that we will be able to offer:
BrainPop ELL - Free for EL students
Special Education
Your student’s case manager will be contacting you if your child is due for an initial or triennial evaluation. Most of these assessments will not take place while schools are physically closed, as they require direct contact between students and staff. Instead, these assessments will occur once schools physically open. However, some types of speech assessments may be completed virtually. Your child’s case manager will contact you if your child is due for an assessment at this time.
If your child’s IEP includes extended school year (ESY), we will be offering ESY services this summer. Your child’s case manager will contact you in the next few weeks regarding your child’s service(s).
