Kelly Creek Elementary School

Principal's Message - December 2021

Dear Kelly Creek Elementary School Community,

The weather outside is frightful and it is time for cold weather and holiday cheer. December is an exciting month for some of our students and some students get anxious during this time of year. If your child needs a warm jacket and winter accessories, we would love to help out! We currently have Boys sizes 8 & 10/12 and Girls sizes 6, 7/8, 10/12 & 14/16. Some additional holiday resources available are the Sunshine Division and SnowCap. You can reach out to our school counselor, Elizabeth Reed, at and she would be happy to assist you and your family!

The COVID numbers in the State of Oregon continue to trend down in the right direction. I am hopeful that this continues throughout our Winter Break. With the decrease in our positive cases statewide, new COVID guidelines have been put in place. Starting December 6th, students may elect to take off their masks during recess, outdoor instruction, and when PE is outside. Students and staff must still wear masks anytime they are indoors.

Starting on Monday, December 6, we will start allowing approved volunteers into Kelly Creek. Volunteer applications (which include a background check) need to be completed and cleared prior to volunteering at the school. Individuals must show proof of COVID vaccination and wear a mask the entire time they are volunteering. If you need to complete a volunteer application you may follow this link. For questions regarding the volunteer process please contact our Head Secretary, Melanie Fitzgerald, at

Since the start of this Global Pandemic, guidelines change constantly. When mandates are changed, I will be sure to communicate those with the school community.

My wish during this holiday season is that each and every one of our students, staff, and community members has a safe and healthy holiday season.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, I can be reached via email at or via phone at 503.663.7483.

Best wishes,

Sam Maranto

Candy Grams are Coming!

Be on the lookout for a Candy-Gram memo in your child's backpack on 12/10. This is a fun way for the kids to pass notes in school (teacher approved) and share some smiles along the way.

The PTC/Parent volunteers will be collecting the completed Candy-Gram notes before school the week of 12/13 and will be delivering them on 12/17 with a sweet treat added to the message.

The Gresham-Barlow School Board needs your input to help with the process of selecting the next superintendent of schools.

Your participation is essential

The school board needs your input to help with the process of selecting the next superintendent. To gather feedback, the school board is using a tool called ThoughtExchange so as many people as possible can participate. You can participate in a variety of languages including Spanish or Russian.

What should the new superintendent know about our District, and what important skills and qualities would help them be most successful in the role?
