DAVIS HILL COMMUNITY UPDATE
May 25, 2020
Dear Davis Hill Community,
Hoping that everyone is enjoying the return of the consistently warmer weather! Summer is coming!
A few quick items
1. Reminder that Monday is a No School Day in honor of Memorial Day.
2. Our classroom teachers are going to be able to return to school and clean out rooms beginning next week. We do have to do this in a slow manner provided the safety precautions that we need to follow.
We will have a pick-up schedule out for parents to collect remaining items from the classroom. We are tentatively looking at June 4th as the pick-up date for parents. However, there are a lot of logistical questions that we continue to work out. We will be providing more details in the next week.
3. Families of Incoming Kindergarten Students: With the shutdown, Kindergarten Screening has been postponed. We'll provide more updates as they become available on how screening will be completed in the future. Kindergarten Orientation has also been postponed. However, I will be providing opportunities for a 'virtual orientation' after July 1 and will be working on videos/ schedules. Stay tuned!
4. Please see the 'Remote Learning Plans' section below for links to this week's plans as developed by our grade level teams. I have also been posting this information to the front page of our website (Davis Hill).
Please feel free to reach out with any questions/ concerns.

VOLUNTARY CLASSROOM PLACEMENT QUESTIONNAIRE- EXTENDED DEADLINE
Dear Davis Hill Community,
We wanted to let you know that soon Davis Hill teachers and administrators will begin the classroom placement process for the 20-21 school year. I understand that at this time we do not know what our return to school will look like in August; however, we are beginning to talk about class placement for next year. I know many of you may have questions about the placement of your child(ren). I would like to assure you that every effort will be made to create balanced classes in which all students will flourish. The process of placing students appropriately is complex and involves a great deal of time and effort on the part of the teachers, specialists, and administration. Factors considered include social relationships with peers as well as educational and emotional needs. While individual needs are given a high priority, they need to be considered in the context of the group. The consensus of teachers is that the dynamic of the total group is the most critical determinant of a successful classroom experience. It is important to recognize that individual needs are better met in classrooms that ‘work’ as a whole.
While the primary responsibility of student assignment rests with the Davis Hill staff, it is recognized that parent(s)/guardian(s) have information that is valuable to share with school personnel to help support the teachers and administrators in the process. We value your input about your child and have attached an optional questionnaire link that, if completed, will be shared with staff and considered in the placement process. It is important to note that in accordance with WRSD School Committee Policy #6260A, “Parental requests for specific teachers, however, shall not be considered in the decision-making process.”
Our staff takes placement very seriously. Classroom teachers in both the sending and receiving grade levels put a great deal of thought into planning the different classroom combinations. We want every student to have the best educational experience so we dedicate a tremendous amount of time and energy into building next year's classrooms.
If you want to complete this optional questionnaire to assist us in the placement process, please follow this link and submit it by Monday, May 25th.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we work together to support our students!

Provided the school closure, the District has created an online Kindergarten Registration Process for those families who had not had an opportunity to register prior to the closing. I understand that this information will only apply to a small percentage of our current Davis Hill Families; however, if you have any neighbors/ friends who may have asked about Kindergarten Registration please spread the word. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions/ concerns.
