Learning at Home
Tips and tricks from Elyria City School District
Dear families ...
We hope this message finds you well and enjoying the warm air and summer sun.
We’re busily planning for the 2020-21 school year and the opening of three new buildings in September: Hamilton Elementary, Ely Elementary and Northwood Campus.
(For a refresher on pertinent new-school-related information please visit: https://bit.ly/2AB9sX7.)
We know these many months away from the day-to-day routines of school have been trying to say the least.
We can’t thank you enough for the many hours you’ve devoted to working with our teachers and staff in home learning.
As Governor DeWine indicated today the state of Ohio will return to structured classroom learning in the fall though he's left many decisions up to the individual school districts as it relates to their day-to-day operations.
As we plan for a fall return, we would like to hear from you.
Please take a moment to complete this quick, seven-question survey at https://bit.ly/3egROGA to help us understand your level of comfort in returning to school and your access to technology and Internet at home. The survey must be completed by July 10, 2020. (One survey per household only.)
The unknowns of the coming weeks and months can’t dampen our excitement of what’s in store for students this year and next as we begin a new chapter in Elyria Schools history.
In July we'll began taking you on virtual tours of your new schools through videos and photos, and we'll continue providing you with important information on our re-opening in the fall.
The first day of school is tentatively scheduled for September 8 (find the school calendar here: https://bit.ly/3dg5hgl). Please continue following us through the summer for open house details.

Mutual benefit: Free meal applications
Free and reduced lunch applications are available online at https://www.elyriaschools.org/Page/176. By completing an application, you can secure affordable meals for your kids and help the district.
The applications are also available at Elyria High School, 601 Middle Ave., or the Elyria Schools Administration Building, 42101 Griswold Road, from 10am until 2pm Monday through Thursday.
Applications can also be picked up at the Northwood and Elyria High summer food-distribution sites on Tuesdays and Thursdays (see locations and schedules here: https://bit.ly/2NNiqU9).
Everyone who completes an application, regardless of eligibility, will be entered into a raffle for a grand prize of an unlocked iphone 11(quantity 1)or an ipad (quantity 4).
Completing a free and reduced application is critically important for the district and individual families.
Up-to-date information gleaned by completed applications helps the district ensure quality foodservice and impacts federal grant funding to provide extra services to Elyria's students.
For families, it can positively impact eligibility for EBT benefits through OJFS, eligibility for free at-home technology services such hot spots and chromebooks, and can eliminate the fee requirement for food and classroom fees.
Applications are due by July 30, 2020.
