A big thank you to all those parents – over 100 of you – who visited our exhibitions two weeks ago and gave us valuable feedback. Your insights are already informing the architectural team as they develop alternative design concepts in this phase of the development. Read more about the findings

If you weren't able to visit the consultation exhibition, you can see the display on our special website. There is also a feedback form for you to leave your comments.

CASHLESS CATERING – With a number of students owing more than £18, it has been decided that accounts will be blocked for these students until the amount has been cleared. Students and parents will be informed once a balance exceeds £10 owing to give sufficient time for it to be topped up if parents wish to do so.

Half Term – Monday 17 – Friday 21 February 2014.

AS and A2 mock examinations – Monday 24 – Wednesday 26 February 2014.

This week, as part of their careers programme, Year 12 students have had a tutorial on how to use a digital careers tool called 'Jed', or 'Job Explorer Database', which is designed to make careers information understandable, interesting, and engaging. It has information on 829 jobs (over 2200 career titles) presented in a clear and lively way which all students can access and enjoy using.

Careers education and guidance is effective when it taps into the user's natural sense of curiosity and there are various pathways that can be tracked through this program, including over 275 high quality video case studies, pictures, quizzes, 'top tens', career facts of the day, and text. It can be explored both in school and from home by going onto the Year 12 site on the Hub and clicking on the link there.

After half term a second digital tool, 'Higher Ideas', will be given to the students to use as they begin to consider whether or not higher education is the next step for them. The two programmes interlink so if the student starts by looking at a particular job in Jed there is a link on that page to the prerequisite degree or other qualifications in Higher Ideas; conversely, if the student's focus is on a particular degree course there are links from the Higher Ideas page to the related jobs pages on Jed which expands on what the job entails.

There certainly is plenty of information to help students get a better idea of the post 18 opportunities available following sixth form.
