Principal Walder's Monday Memo
For the week of December 16th
Three Important Notes
If you have already read them all, you can skip down to the schedule for your reference.
Thank you for all you for our Titans! Have a great week!
1) Civic Leadership Blanket Project (Copy of Email from 12/12/19)
The Civic Leadership Team (Mr. Weber, Ms. Rederth, Ms. Ganschow, and Mrs. Preheim) has been planning our Schoolwide Civic Service Project of Blanket Making for Monday, February 10th. As this is a project that Legacy has done in the past, we are relying on our team member that kept great notes years ago!
We need TEACHER HELP to communicate with families in two ways:
1) PAPER: The team composed a note (attached) that will be in your mailbox by Friday to send home on or before Tuesday, December 17th in student backpacks. Attached to the note will be the volunteer form for parents to fill out and return to the classroom teacher if they will be available to volunteer on February 10th. Please collect these in a folder.
2) DIGITALLY: Please send out the note via your classroom communication method (Seesaw, Remind, email, etc.) with the same details. You may use the same letter (as attached) or the InfoGraphic. Please send the note both in paper and digitally to families by Tuesday, December 17th.
One of the first January Staff meetings will be dedicated to this topic to review all of the logistics and specifics of the schedule for the day. Attached to this document is a Teacher Guide, the Blanket Project Graphic, and the Blanket Project Letter to go home digitally.
Thank you for your support of this project! It will be a busy, fun day!
2) School Climate Survey #2 (Copy of Email from 12/12/19)
Thank you for the continued feedback and support for our School Climate Surveying. We need to celebrate the overwhelming successes this survey highlighted: Our Students Feel Safe, Students know an Adult is available to help them, and our students like school. This is because of the work each of YOU do each day and you should be proud.
The greatest concern from the teacher feedback charts and discussion last week from the survey data was that some students felt unsafe. In order to determine what to change or what to directly teach our students so all students at Legacy feel safe, the Academic Leadership Team met to review how to get some more specifics. We will take the first survey again in May to see if there was a change based on what action steps we develop this year.
For the purpose of being able to create clear, actionable steps so we can improve students’ thoughts on school safety, the team tied the GOLD expectation of Display Respect as being what could be low for students to feel unsafe. The team has developed a short survey that we need you to deliver to your students by next Thursday at the end of the day. It has already been pushed out to the iPads and will be on there after they are plugged in for an overnight. The label says “2” on the iPads.
The link for the survey is: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfdfY2MYIbu2XYTllP4dJDYBlSLt-9hBFd1X_YFc7aFyZXG8w/viewform?usp=sf_link for Grades 3-5 to put into Google Classroom.
Please use the following script to explain to the survey to the student. All staff need to use a very close to the same to keep the data consistent:
“One of our Teacher Leadership Teams at Legacy is working to make our school even better. To do this, we need you to give us an idea about which GOLD expectations are being followed and not followed by your classmates.”
For students in the lower grades or at your discretion, please read each of the questions out load and complete the survey together. There are only 4 questions. Questions 2-4 allow for students to “select all that apply” and there is an option for students to write in an answer.
Please complete this survey with your students on or before Thursday, December 19th. Please let Mrs. Desaulniers, Ms. Binder, or Ms. Heidinger know if you have questions about this new survey.
