Message from Ms. Barkley, Coordinator of Early Learning
We recently hosted our curriculum night where our teachers shared what the children will be learning and how they will be learning. If you were not able to attend our curriculum night, there is a link below with the handout that was provided.
We also hosted a parent educational opportunity: Facilitating Your Child's Learning At Home. You can view the handouts from the webinar in the link below.
The Illinois State Board of Education has provided notification for our program to be audited. Our auditing window is between September 19th-October 6th. The auditor will review our files to ensure that we are meeting the Early Childhood Block Grant Compliance and will also observe our classrooms to ensure that we are meeting the Early Childhood Educational Rating Scale criteria. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this process.
Reminders for Families
Lockdown Drill: Our lockdown drill has been rescheduled for September 28th. Law enforcement will be involved in the drill to provide support to our staff and students. This type of drill will secure the school building and safely shelter all students, staff, and visitors inside the building. The purpose of this drill is to keep the students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During a lockdown drill all of the perimeter doors to the school building and interior doors to all classrooms will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed. To enable everyone to remain safe, no one will be allowed to enter the building or leave the building until the drill is completed.
We are hiring: District 34 is looking for paraprofessionals, and lunch and recess monitors. If interested, please complete an application on the Antioch 34 website under Human Resources, or call Amy Mahr 847/838-8457
Family Safety Night: On the evening of Monday, October 3rd, Antioch CCSD 34 will be hosting a Safety Night for families. Please hold the date. Additional information regarding time, location, and topics to be presented will be coming soon.
Student Transportation: Students should arrive at their designated bus stop 5 minutes prior to their scheduled pickup time. If your child requires a parent/guardian to meet the student at the bus stop and no one is there to meet the student, the driver will continue their route and bring the student back to their school building once all students on the route are delivered. Please contact the Transportation Department directly at 847-838-8388 regarding any busing questions.
Parent Educational Opportunities
Play, Learning and Preschoolers
While often dismissed as “just fun,” play is the vital activity children use to learn about and interact with their world. Through play, children gain mental, physical and social skills necessary to succeed in their adult lives. In this interactive workshop we’ll discuss different types and styles of play children engage in and the kinds of skills play helps to develop. We’ll explore a variety of ways families can engage in play with their children and play activities to foster a child’s development. Parents that participate in this workshop will have the option to register for childcare for their preK child during the duration of the workshop.
