Reignier Catholic School Newsletter
7th July 2022 - Issue # 6
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
As another term concludes, we reflect on the business that has been Term 2. I would like to thank everyone who took the opportunity to come to our open day yesterday and view the kura in action. It was great to have so many of you take time out of your busy schedules.
This term has continued to throw us curve balls, but the effort to ensure that learning opportunities continue for our students has been incredible. Thank you to the staff for all their hard work, and I hope that you have a well-deserved rest over the next couple of weeks.
It is with a heavy heart I must announce that Ms Davis will be leaving us at the end of week three, next term. It has been a pleasure to work alongside her in my previous roles and schools, and now here at Reignier Catholic School. Her passion for Catholic Education, our tamariki and the kura are some of her many attributes that make her the kind and generous person she is. We wish her all the best for her new role with the Ministry of Health. Mrs Alexander will take over in Room Two from week four.
Finally, thank you to our students, parents and wider community for another term of your on-going support. We send you all our blessings for the school holidays. May you stay healthy, be safe if you are travelling and we look forward to seeing you back next term.
God Bless.
Mrs Shanks
A NOTE FROM MS DAVIS
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of my resignation from Reignier Catholic School. My last day will be Friday 12th August which is the end of the third week of Term Three.
I have valued our chats, friendships, laughs, hugs and working together to create some magic at RCS. I will miss the connections with your tamariki and your whanau. I hope our paths cross again at some point in the future - at Mass, on the side of a football pitch or in the supermarket - somewhere in our community.
I leave the school in the capable hands of the SLT - Mrs Shanks, Mrs Jackson and Mrs Gouder and the staff who will continue to guide RCS into the future.
I have accepted a position in the Schools Programme, Health Promotion with the HBDHB, working alongside the Ministry of Education and Sport Hawke's Bay. I will be putting into practice the Catholic Social Teaching of Protection of the Poor and Vulnerable.
We welcome the return of Mrs Katrina Alexander to the position of classroom teacher in Room Two. This is a great appointment with her being known to the class and whānau.
Ngā mihi
Mel Davis

GOVERNANCE UPDATE: THE WORK OF THE BOARD
The work of the board is to ensure that every student achieves their highest possible educational outcomes supported by the Catholic faith and Catholic culture of the school. All Board members have responsibility for the protection of the Catholic special character of the school as set out in the school’s integration agreement and charter. The board has key responsibilities in relation to integration and in particular must safeguard:
- Religious Education
- Employment
- Enrolment
- Property
The board ensures the charter, policies and plans reflect the philosophy of Catholic schooling. For an overview of the key partnerships, processes, policies and systems required to support students to achieve their potential supported by the Catholic culture of the school, visit the BOT handbook site and review the interactive Work of the Board diagram.
If you are interested in the work of the Board, we look forward to seeing you at tonight's information evening at 6.30pm in our school staffroom. This will be hosted by NZSTA.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
You will be aware that this has been in the news a lot recently. As a kura, our number one priority is for your child to be at school.
