Dangers of Mercury
Mercury is a very dangerous substance to intake. People take in mercury by eating seafood and shellfish that contain methylmercury. There are many health risks involving mercury. Mercury can cause long lasting effects if not taken very seriously.
Effects on Health
Health effects due to mercury poisoning include neurological damage to unborn fetuses, cancer, "pins and needle sensation", lack of coordination, impairment of speech, hearing, and walking.
Sources of Mercury Poisoning
Sources of mercury and methylmercury include:
-fish
-power plants
-burning coal releases it into the environment
Mercury Accumulation
The higher up in the food chain, the more mercury it contains.
