Literacy Lookout

Quarter 2 :|: January 2023

Welcome Back & Happy New Year!

We hope that everyone was able to rest, relax, and enjoy some time with family and friends over the winter break!

This is a great time to reflect and recharge as we are almost halfway through the school year! As we approach the second semester, we are prioritizing getting into classrooms more frequently. Be on the lookout for emails and calendar invites to set-up times for the Literacy Team to come and get a glimpse into your literacy instruction.

We are excited to announce that Mapleton Local Schools has been awarded the Reaching All Students through Language and Literacy grant! Over the next two years, the district will use $200,000 in grant money to improve family and community engagement, literacy instruction, students' background knowledge, and vocabulary to improve reading outcomes!

A Change of Plans

The Writing Revolution, which was going to be our Spring Book Club read, is moving to the Fall! With writing being a district focus for the 2023-2024 school year, the decision was made to begin the year diving into TWR to kick-start our writing initiative. More information will be coming this spring, but in the mean time, if you're interested in what the book entails, visit The Writing Revolution.
