A Blizzard of Kindness Week, January 28th-February 1st

The forecast for Orchard Park Elementary this week is to experience "blizzard like" conditions! Our school will become a winter wonderland of snowflakes that display a variety of kind acts that can be completed for others. Each student will receive one special family snowflake that they are encouraged to decorate and complete at home with their families. These snowflakes will be hung around the counseling office and in the atrium of our school. In addition, small classroom snowflakes have been distributed to each homeroom teacher. These snowflakes will be for students or teachers to write kind notes to each other throughout the week. Students, teachers and staff are all invited to participate by our STOP (Students Thinking of Other People) Club members as well as Eagle Ambassadors. This week we will also feature daily announcements that focus on kindness and how we can become a stronger community of kind and caring students.

Black History Month Events

Throughout the month of February, OPES we will focus on the contributions of African Americans for Black History Month. Each classroom has chosen an African American Inventor to research. As a class they will decorate the outside of their classroom door with their chosen inventor. To begin the celebration on February 1st the students will view a Power-Point/Video to learn about the background of Black History Month and be shown a sampling of various inventions that were created by African American Inventors. Towards the end of the celebration, the students will be allowed to complete a scavenger hunt around the school. In addition to the hunt we will be asking for support staff volunteers that will choose the "best dressed door" (one winner for grades K-2 and one winner for grades 3-5). Winning classes will be announced on morning announcements and will win a special book for their classroom library.

Has your family experienced the loss of a loved one?

We will have a grief support group this spring. Art, books, and discussions will be used to help your child adjust to losing a family member or friend. If you would like for your child to join us, please click HERE to sign up. Please contact the counselors if you have any questions.
